Telltale's Game of Thrones series setting teased
A Stark message.
The Walking Dead developer Telltale Games has teased its upcoming Game of Thrones series with what sounds like a clue to its setting.
Telltale's Twitter account recently posted an image featuring a (non-spoilery) quote from the latest Game of Thrones book, A Dance With Dragons, which highlights a specific family name.
"...Trackers and hunters sworn to Deepwood with clan names such as Forrester and Woods, Branch and Bole," the excerpt reads.
"Game of Thrones, a Telltale Games series #IronFromIce".
House Forrester is a minor clan that has been named but not directly featured in George R.R. Martin's book series.
Since we know that Telltale's series is to be set concurrently with the main story (but still allow you to control the narrative), a focus on the exploits of background characters seems likely.
In the series' lore, the Forrester family are sworn to House Glover of Deepwood Motte - a northern location which has popped up in both the books and TV series. Deepwood Motte in turn holds loyalty to House Stark of Winterfell.
The suggestion is, then, that Telltale's series will feature a fresh family of characters, albeit ones expected to be on the same side as the main Stark protagonists.
"The show does a great job of interpreting George R.R. Martin's work, and his work provides a huge dictionary of knowledge about what the franchise is," Telltale boss Dan Conner previously teased.
"It's really a dream to sit down and say, 'What's our space in this world? Where are we in this world?' And the world offers you so much to explore."
There's still no word of a release date for the series, which is due out at some point on PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Telltale is now focusing its full attention on its Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands projects after the excellent conclusion to The Walking Dead: Season Two. A third round of episodes for that series also already been greenlit.
