Star Wars: Battlefront 2's new Night On Endor update lets you play as an Ewok
Also introduces first wave of cosmetic Appearances.
DICE has detailed Star Wars: Battlefront 2's next major update, due on April 18th, which includes a new limited-time mode in the form of Ewok Hunt, and the first wave of cosmetic Appearances.
Ewok Hunt unfolds, naturally enough, on the forest moon of Endor, and splits players into teams of Ewoks and Stormtroopers. "The ambush begins as the Ewok attacks the unsuspecting stormtroopers, using spears, Wisties, and whatever abilities they can muster", explains DICE.
"Each defeated stormtrooper spawns as another Ewok, multiplying until the Empire's forces have been completely eliminated, and the Ewok celebration can begin". If the Stormtroopers can survive until an extraction team arrives, "they'll make it off of Endor and claim the win".
As an aside, Eurogamer's Ian Higton spent far too much time attempting to murder indestructible Ewoks back when the original Star Wars: Battlefront launched in 2015. Perhaps Ewok Hunt will sate his peculiar appetites.
DICE's April update also re-introduces Battlefront 2's Crysal currency, alongside the previously announced Appearances. These are cosmetic skins that can be acquired either using Crystals, bought with real-world money, or Credits earned in-game.
Crystals could previously, and controversially, be used to buy various game-impacting items prior to Battlefront 2's massive progression overhaul. However, DICE stresses that the newly re-introduced currency is only redeemable against cosmetic Appearances, and nothing else.
DICE says that the April update will introduce more than 50 Appearances for both heroes and Troopers, with more to come at a later date. Trooper cosmetics, of which there will be 40 at launch, include Officer Appearances for the First Order and The Empire, Rebel Trooper Appearances such as the Heavy Quarren Rebel and the Twi'lek Specialist, plus Heavy Zabrak and Duros Officer cosmetics for the Resistance.
As for heroes, launch offerings will include Endor Leia, Endor Han, Ahch-To Rey, Wounded Chewbacca with an arm patch, Hooded Yoda, Administrator Lando, and more.
Additionally, DICE has confirmed that Battlefront 2's Season Two is still on the way, and scheduled to arrive in May. Seasons, it says, will focus on a specific theme - such as a new film or Star Wars anniversary - and will usually span several months. And with the new Solo movie due out in May in the UK, that certainly sounds like a bit of a hint toward Season Two's theme...
DICE also notes that it plans to continue on with a monthly update schedule, with new content consisting of either seasons or smaller updates such as the Ewok Hunt mode.
All this information comes via DICE's first Community Transmission, which, it says, is designed to offer an "overview of everything that's happening during the month, the new content that's coming, as well as addressing some of your burning questions". The developer concedes that "communication has probably not been at a level that our players have wanted [in the past]. The Community Transmission is a first step towards improving on that."
The Community Transmission also includes an extensive list of upcoming game improvements - including the fact that you'll be able to convert Crafting Parts to Skill Points in the next update - alongside details of balance changes, bug fixes, and tweaks, so definitely worth a read.
