Fallout 76 bug grants player permanent god mode - and now they're begging for death
Kill me.
Normally, video game god mode is a load of fun. Impervious to harm, you run around the game world swatting away enemies who'd normally give you trouble as if they were flies.
But what happens when you're locked into god mode permanently against your will? For one Fallout 76 player, that's exactly what happened - and now they're begging for death.
Redditor Brogadyn took to the Fallout 76 sub to complain about a bug that had made their character unkillable after hitting around level 40.
"She can even eat a nuke blast to the face and be fine," Brogadyn wrote.
"There is literally zero ways that she can die even if I wanted her to (which I very much do at this point)."
Fallout 76 includes an instant kill barrier at the fissure south of Whitespring. Normally, anyone who enters it dies immediately. Not, Brogadyn, though. Here's an image showing their character standing, nonplussed, in the fissure.
Even drowning doesn't work, Brogadyn said.
It looks like Fallout 76, which is already riddled with bugs and other technical issues, considers Brogadyn's character to have zero health points - or, negative health points. The character occasionally gets some health back, but dropping it doesn't result in death.
"I'm not sure what state the game is actually reading me in," Brogadyn said.
As a result of this bug, which happened a week ago, Brogadyn had to limit themselves to "more boring activities because I do not want my exploration, or the PvP aspect ruined by my godmode".
Their character is nearly level 100 and has hit the bottle cap limit. "So what the heck am I supposed to do besides actually starting to make all content in the game trivial?"
"I'm really frustrated and I have no idea what i'm supposed to do," Brogadyn continued.
Exasperated, Brogadyn submitted a ticket to Bethesda customer support. Only a stock reply was received, suggesting they check out the status effects currently active on their character.
"This email continues with basic information that feels like a huge kick in the teeth at this point," Brogadyn wrote.
Thankfully, it looks like Bethesda has noticed the kerfuffle on the Fallout 76 subreddit over this, and messaged Brogadyn to ask for more information. With any luck, this bug will be squashed soon and Brogadyn's character will finally get the peace they so crave.
Until then? Maybe waltz on in to a nuclear blast zone and whittle down those bullet sponge scorchbeats, just for a laugh.
