Overwatch teases French medic hero Jean-Baptiste Augustin
Merci.
The Overwatch tease-machine has whirred into life again, and at the centre of attention is a character - possibly the game's 30th hero - called Jean-Baptiste Augustin.
He's a deserting Talon (the baddies) medic, and he's on the run. A Talon squad led by someone called D. Cuerva was sent to deal with Baptiste, but he dealt with three of them and issued the fourth, the leader D. Cuerva, a bold challenge: "Come find me, Cuerva."
To which Cuerva, in his lore-ified report of the incident, wrote: "I know better than to underestimate Baptiste. I helped train him myself, and he was one of our best. I've never known a medic to be such a good shot, and his adaptability to new situations is a rare talent. All of us have seen our fair share of conflict, but Baptiste was built to survive. I swear he has the Devil's own luck."
The action is noted as taking place in Tortuga in Haiti, a Caribbean island with buckets of pirating history and a strong French vein running through it. The report also mentions Baptiste playing cards and drinking rum. It's not confirmed but Tortuga sounds as though it could be Baptiste's home.
The description of "medic" suggests Baptiste will be a support character, and his being "such a good shot" suggests some kind of sharp-shooting ability, although Overwatch already has a sniper-styled support in Ana, so Baptiste will unlikely be a long-range healer as well. Perhaps he is mid-range.
It's unclear what the other descriptions - "adaptability", "built to survive" - may mean. Perhaps he's an omnic (robot), although why would an omnic drink rum? Perhaps he's a pirate!
This new tease in does not mention mysterious Overwatch character Echo in any way. Echo was the AI/robot/omnic revealed in the Ashe cinematic short in November - Echo was the robot McCree was there to retrieve.
