Star Wars Battlefront 2's new mode goes from ground battles to the inside of a capital ship

Capital Supremacy out next week.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is getting a brand-new mode next week, March 26th, mixing ground battles with taught close-quarters combat as teams run the gauntlet through the interior of a capital ship.

Known as Capital Supremacy, the new is described as "an immersive, Clone Wars-era authentic experience" that pits two teams of 20, in the role of either the Galactic Republic or the Separatists, against each other, aided by 12 AI-controlled troopers on each side.

Playing out in a similar fashion to Battlefield 2142's Titan Mode, Capital Supremacy unfolds over two phases. The first is "non-linear" ground battle (appropriately called the Ground Phase) that sees participants utilising "a wide array of tactics, trooper classes, land vehicles, reinforcement units, and hero characters to attack and defend different areas across the surface".

The ultimate goal during this phase is to capture and control the most command posts. By doing so, teams are able to gather new reinforcements, with the side that accrues the requisite amount first then able to take a stab at felling the opposition's capital ship.

At this point, the Ground Phase winners are designated the attackers and must attempt to board two incoming transport shuttles - all while the other team does everything in its power to stop them. Those that successfully board the ship in time secure even more reinforcements in preparation for the Invasion Phase, so it's in the enemy's best interests to cut them down.

The Invasion Phase begins once the boarding timer has depleted (and a cutscene has played out), and sees the attacking group attempting to destroy their opponent's capital ship - either the Republic Attack Cruiser or the Separatist Dreadnought - from the inside. Meanwhile, the other team, as you might have guessed, tries to stop them.

Destroying the ship, says DICE, requires players to escape the hanger, breach the first line of defence, and override one of two security consoles. Once the barrier is down, attackers must navigate the hallways beyond and plant charges in the two chambers housing the ship's weak points. If they can fend off the enemy until the timer expires, victory is secured.

However, if the defending side successfully manages to eliminates enough attacking players to deplete their reinforcement tickets, the Ground Phase will begin again - although any progress made during the Invasion Phase will be saved, should the attacking team managed to get back up for a second attempt at destroying the capital ship.

To accomodate the new mode, Battlefront 2 will receive a new map in the form of Geonosis' Pipeline Junction West, featuring "rolling sand dunes, characteristic cliff formations, areas contaminated with toxic waste from the close-by droid foundries, and a mysterious boneyard where you'll find the remains of large creatures from across the galaxy."

If you fancy giving Capital Supremacy a spin, it arrives as a free Star Wars Battlefront 2 update next Tuesday, March 26th, on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
