Mortal Kombat 11 PC to get 60fps option for certain parts of the game

Mercy!

Mortal Kombat 11 on PC will get a 60fps option for certain parts of the game.

In a recent patch notes post on the Mortal Kombat subreddit, a Warner Bros. rep signalled the welcome addition:

"Additionally, on the topic of having the certain parts of the game run with a framerate cap of 30fps, we hear you. We're currently working on providing the option to increase the caps in those areas to 60fps. We'll have more details soon, stay tuned!"

One of the things that's frustrated PC gamers about Mortal Kombat 11 is a 30fps cap for specific parts of the game, including the menus, the fight intros, Fatal Blows (high-damage cinematic combos) and Fatalities.

Mortal Kombat 11 runs at 60fps during fights across all platforms, including Nintendo Switch (for more on this, check out Digital Foundry's report), but the frame-rate drops down to 30fps for Fatal Blows and Fatalities so, as NetherRealm has previously explained, the developers can craft better-looking moves that are consistent across all the platforms the game is available on.

PC gamers had hoped to unlock this framerate, making the most of their beefy hardware, but the game doesn't allow you to do this - officially, at least.

As Eurogamer reported in April, there's a mod for that. Modder Endri Lauson's 60fps and Ultrawide Mod for Mortal Kombat 11 removes the 30fps cap on the menus, intros, Fatal Blows and Fatalities, as well as the black side bars on the menus and the Krypt game mode, for those who use ultrawide monitors.

Hopefully this new official option will do much the same as Endri Lauson's mod.
