Psychonauts 2 release date pushed to 2020
Needs more Tim.
If you were eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the Psychonauts series, it looks like you'll be waiting a little longer, as Psychonauts 2's release date has been moved back to 2020.
As Double Fine explains in the latest backer update, the studio's had a pretty busy year. Having been acquired by Xbox Game Studios, Microsoft has now taken over as publisher from troubled company Starbreeze, and while Psychonauts 2 will still be published on all promised platforms (including PlayStation 4), Double Fine says it still needs a bit more time.
"We know it's always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who - just like us - want the game to be as good as possible," the post reads. "We're hopeful you'll understand! <3"
The blog post also includes a fun behind-the-scenes E3 video, showing Double Fine's preparations for the Microsoft briefing, various technical issues, and director Tim Schafer getting his beard sandpapered.
This is the second delay for Psychonauts 2, after the game's release date was previously shuffled from 2018 to 2019. The reason was after creating a playable build in autumn 2017, Double Fine realised more time was required to bring it up to standard.
If you need something to fill the Double Fine void in the meantime, the studio's other project, RAD, is coming out on 20th August.
