Fortnite season 10 launches this week, and its first tease has nostalgic fans very excited
UPDATE: Full trailer leaks ahead of time, confirms map changes.
UPDATE 31/7/19 3.15pm: You really didn't have long to wait - the full Fortnite season 10 trailer has now been revealed early and is doing the rounds online. It confirms a mix of old and recent locations will feature in the forthcoming season. Here it is in full:
UPDATE 31/7/19 3.00pm: Your final teaser for Fortnite season 10 looks to be a clip from tomorrow's launch trailer. And, as expected, the island's unvaulted power orb is going to go boom.
Fans have speculated the battle royale's island is about to go back in time, but yesterday we got a tease of two previous Battlepass skins - Drift and Ragnarok - with a dark new twist. That teaser was named "twist time", so it seems like something more mysterious is on the cards.
Either way, we don't have long to wait. Season 10 begins tomorrow.
UPDATE 29/7/19 3.30pm: Today's tease - the second so far - offers a far more futuristic take on what Fortnite season 10 may hold in store - the silhouette of what looks like a character in a mech suit. Whereas the first teaser asked fans to "think back", this one states to "look forward".
But there's another link here to the game's early seasons for eagle-eyed fans. The symbol on the left is that of The Visitor, the robot seemingly from the future whose rocket launch memorably took place in season four, kickstarting the game's Kevin the Cube plotline.
ORIGINAL STORY 29/7/19 11.05am: We're just days away from the launch of Fortnite season 10, this Thursday 1st August, and we now have our first teaser.
Fortnite maker Epic Games typically reveals four teases in the days running up to the new season's start - either of a character or weapon to be featured in the next season's Battle Pass.
But for its first season 10 tease, Epic has decided to showcase... Dusty Divot, the much-loved, much-missed location which was wiped off the face of the map when Fortnite's meteor struck around a year ago.
For fans hoping to see Dusty Divot's return, the tease is hugely exciting as it hints at some kind of timey-wimey map shenanigans about to take place.
Fortnite's Vault, where old weapons get retired (and, occasionally, brought back) has been the focus of the game's storyline several times of late. Now, ever since season nine's climactic monster versus mecha battle, its energy source has been exposed. Recent days have seen this energy - officially named the Zero Point, Fortnite fans - appear to become unstable.
Another possible Easter egg can be seen in the Overtime challenges' reskin of Battlepass character Stratus - whose storm tracker gadget now appears to be relabelled "time".
The fan theory, then, is the Zero Point will detonate and actual map locations from the past will return - including Dusty Divot. But will it be in the same place? And what else might come back? (I miss Wailing Woods' maze!)
