Total War Saga: Troy will be free at launch on the Epic Games Store
Keep it forever if you grab it in the first 24 hours.
Developer The Creative Assembly's Total War spin-off A Total War Saga: Troy will be free to download and keep when it launches as an Epic Games Store exclusive on 13th August.
Total War Saga: Troy is The Creative Assembly's second entry in its strategy spin-off series - following on from 2018's decent Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia - and, like its predecessor, is designed to offer a shorter, more focused take on the core series' blend of turn-based empire management and real-time tactics.
While Thrones of Britannica set its strategic action in the British Isles of 878 AD, Troy heads to the Mediterranean of the Bronze Age - the earliest period the Total War series has tackled so far - focusing on the battle between Troy and Mycenaean Greece, better known as the Trojan War.
"Homer's Iliad is rich with myth, legends, gods and monsters," says the blurb. "Troy casts these stories through a historical lens to consider what might have really happened but ultimately lets you decide which heroes will fall in battle and which will be immortalised in legend."
Total War Saga: Troy launches as an Epic Games Store exclusive for PC on 13th August, and will be free to download and keep permanently for anyone that does so within the first 24 hours or release. After that, you'll need to acquire it the old-fashioned way, with money and such.
Sega, which is publishing Total War Saga: Troy, says the game will remain an Epic exclusive for one year, and will be made available on Steam in August 2021. You can read more about the decision to enter into an exclusivity deal with Epic over on the Total War blog.
