Black Lives Matter indie game bundle has already raised over £43,000 on itch.io
All proceeds split between Black Lives Matter and National Bail Fund Network.
A new indie game bundle raising money to provide financial support to Black Lives Matter has already raised over $55,000 USD (£43,000), just two days after launching on itch.io.
The Black Lives Matter Support Bundle, which will be available until 17th June, features games from 20 indie developers "standing together to oppose police brutality and white supremacy", and comes as Black Lives Matter protests continue around the globe following the police killing of George Floyd last week.
The bundle's featured titles are split across two donation tiers, and include Cosmo D's The Norwood Suite, Toge Productions' Coffee Talk, and Kitfox Games' Moon Hunters, with a combined total valued at $150 USD. A $20 donation will net 11 games, with the remainder being made available to those donating $40 and above.
According to the bundle's itch.io page, 100% of proceeds will be divided equally between Black Lives Matter - in support of its mission to "eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes" - and the National Bail Fund Network, which pays bail for protestors across the United States.
"By purchasing this bundle you are contributing to the fight against police brutality and providing necessary funding to two amazing organisations that are working to make the world a better place," say its organisers.
A second bundle is currently being prepared by itch.io's creator to raise money for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Community Bail Fund. However, the pay-what-you-want bundle has been delayed as the sheer number of developers contributing games - said to total over 750 - threatened to overwhelm the website. It will go live as soon as backend performance modifications are complete.
