This year's Summer Games Done Quick charity speedrunning event will be online-only
Broadcasting from 16th-23rd August.
This year's Summer Games Done Quick charity speed-running event will be an online-only affair, organisers have announced.
Back in March, organisers made the decision to delay Summer Games Done Quick 2020 - which was originally scheduled to take place this month in Bloomington, Minnesota - in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. At the time, it was unclear if a physical show would be possible when its revised 16th-23rd August date arrived, but an answer has now been given.
"Games Done Quick has been actively monitoring the situation surrounding COVID-19," organisers wrote in a new statement, "As we prioritise the health and safety of everyone who attends GDQ events, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the on-site portion of Summer Games Done Quick 2020 and instead proceed with an online-only event, called Summer Games Done Quick 2020 Online".
This year's revised format will see the event being broadcast from the Summer Games Done Quick studio, while participants perform their speedruns from the safety of their homes. Speedrunning submissions, for those wishing to take part, will reopen from 6th-17th June.
Summer Games Done Quick 2020 Online will kick-off at 4.30pm in the UK/11.30am ET on 16th August and will conclude on 23rd August. The show will be broadcast on Twitch and will be raising money for Doctors Without Borders.
