Battle Sister is the first Warhammer 40,000 VR game
Bolt from the blue.
Here's a bit of a surprise: Battle Sister is the first Warhammer 40,000 VR game.
Battle Sister is an Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 exclusive, and lets you play as one of the Adepta Sororitas.
For the uninitiated - or the faithless! - the Adepta Sororitas is an all-female division of the Ecclesiarchy (the Imperium of Man's state church). The Sisters of Battle is the military arm of this division, and bad-ass they are, too.
The Sisters of Battle are all about weeding out spiritual corruption and heresy within Humanity. I'm a big fan, and had hoped for a video game to revolve around them for some time after enjoying the Sisters of Battle campaign in Dawn of War expansion Soulstorm. Also, Saint Celestine is one of my favourite characters from the Warhammer 40,000 lore (the Our Martyred Lady novel, by Gav Thorpe, is brilliant, and the audio version, which stars Catherine Tate as Inquisitor Greyfax, is wonderful!).
Back to the video game... Battle Sister is in development at Leamington Spa-based studio Pixel Toys, which previously made Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade and Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realm War. Here's the gameplay trailer:
My initial impression is Battle Sister looks pretty rough around the edges - even for a VR title. The Chaos enemies look pretty samey, and the developers really need to add some punch to that bolter sound. Those things should sound like thunder! I'm hoping it can be polished up before release.
Speaking of release, Battle Sister comes out 12th November 2020.
