The "intended change" of removing PC achievements from Assassin's Creed Valhalla was unintentional after all, says Ubisoft
"Achievements are coming!" Ubisoft insists.
After several days of contradictory statements, Ubisoft has now confirmed that standalone achievements will be available for PC players of Assassin's Ceed Valhalla after all.
It all kicked off a few days back when players noticed that while the recently-released Watch Dogs Legion had an achievement page on Ubisoft's refreshed Ubisoft Connect service, the page for Assassin's Creed Valhalla did not.
After querying the change on the Ubisoft official forum, a Ubisoft support rep responded to say they were chasing it up with the team, but came back to the thread a short while after to report that missing achievements "was unintended", and the team was "actively working to enable achievements".
Two days later, however, the thread was updated again.
"Achievements are not not [sic] available for this title on PC, and this is an intended change," the representative wrote (thanks, PC Gamer). "Instead of Achievements for new games on Ubisoft Connect, instead we have expanded the Challenges, which provide XP and other rewards in Ubisoft Connect.
"We know that this is a big change for a lot of you, and we appreciate your understanding in the matter."
After a slew of complaints, a different support representative returned two days later again - yesterday - and contradicted the prior statement once more, insisting that the removal of achievements was "unintended" and the team was "actively working" to restore them.
"We are aware that achievements are not available for Assassin's Creed Valhalla players on PC - this was unintended. We are actively working to enable achievements and will keep you updated when more information is available."
"Just to clarify, the misunderstanding on our part was that achievements had been discontinued - they haven't!" Support clarified further down the thread. "The original information was correct, and they are indeed being worked on. Achievements are coming!"
Right now there's no confirmation on when achievements will be available for PC players, but we'll keep you posted.
"It is a Viking saga which does at times struggle a little in reaching its destiny, and in its efforts to evolve the series has made some sacrifices to tell a stronger overall story," Tom summarised in his Assassin's Creed Valhalla review. "But it wins through, in the end quite easily, as it continues the Assassin's Creed saga for a new generation."
