France star Kylian Mbappé returns as FIFA 22 cover star
It's a knockout.
Kylian Mbappé is FIFA 22 cover star, EA has confirmed.
The Paris Saint-Germain and France star retains the job after first becoming the series' cover star with last year's FIFA 21.
EA released the FIFA 22 cover art alongside a quote from Mbappé he definitely wrote himself:
"Being on back-to-back FIFA covers is amazing. I have a very special relationship with the game and look forward to enjoying FIFA 22 alongside all of you."
Mbappé didn't have the best of seasons last year, despite scoring loads of goals. PSG lost out to Lille to the Ligue 1 title, their Champions League campaign ended in disappointment with a defeat to Premier League champions Man City in the semi-final (the second leg of which Mbappé missed due to injury), and France lost to Switzerland in the round of 16 in a tournament Mbappé failed to score a single goal in. Worst of all, Mbappé's penalty miss sent Les Bleus home.
Still, Mbappé remains one of the most exciting and effective forwards in world football, and at just 22-years-old, last season will surely go down as a blip in what will no doubt end up a stellar career.
Back to FIFA 22, and EA is set to release its reveal trailer tomorrow, 11th July at 4.30pm UK time, on YouTube. All eyes are on this year's game to see if EA Sports changes the way cash-cow Ultimate Team works in the face of increasing pressure from governments and authorities to classify loot boxes as gambling.
