Animal Crossing Brewster: Where to find Brewster in Animal Crossing New Horizons
How to welcome the coffee-curating columbidae to your island.
Animal Crossing's Brewster is finally making his way to New Horizons as part of the 2.0 update.
One of the most requested additions to the game since its debut in March 2020, Brewster and his cafe The Roost allows you to relax and enjoy a coffee with both friends.
Unlike previous games in the series, the cafe is not a standalone location, and instead will be part of the museum.
Once you get the cafe, you can spend some quality time with other villagers here - both those who are already on your island, and to invite others with amiibo support - and make friends with Brewster over time.

How to unlock Brewster's cafe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and why Blathers is not talking about Brewster
Brewster and his cafe, The Roost, will appear on the island as part of the museum, and as with other attractions, will need to be unlocked first.
To unlock Brewster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you must first visit Blathers in the museum. He will mention the idea of adding a cafe - but that his friend, Brewster, is currently nowhere to be found. He does, however, hint that he loves Gyroids.
If Blathers doesn't mention Brewster, then it's likely you need to open up more of your museum and further establish your island. This can include:
- Donate at least one item for each area of the museum (bugs, fish, fossils, sea creatures, art)
- Have K.K. Slider visit your island following a three-star island rating
It's also possible you might need a certain number of donations across all museum wings as well. Try fulfilling the above and returning to Blathers, and hopefully that should do the trick.
Where to find Brewster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
To find Brewster in Animal Crossing once Blathers mentions him, you must go on a Kapp'n boat tour - which is where you will find Gyroids. Kapp'n tours are another new feature in the 2.0 update. Head to your island's pier where Kapp'n will be waiting, and after paying some Nook Miles, will take you to an island.
It's on a Kapp'n island you will find Brewster wondering around. If you didn't speak to Blathers in the museum first, Brewster won't appear on the island. Since you can only use a Kapp'n tour once per day, it's important you do so first to find Brewster as soon as possible.
Talk to Brewster - we imagine any dialogue choices will work here, but we picked 'I'm looking for you' and 'Blathers sent me to...' - and after some Gyroids advice, he will then be 'seeing you'.
Return to your island and visit the museum to give Blathers the good news. You will learn Brewster will be making his way here "forthwith".
However, Brewster and the cafe won't appear right away. The following day the museum will be closed for renovations, and only the day after that the cafe will be open. This means if you confirmed Brewster will be coming to the island on a Thursday, the earliest you can visit the cafe is on Saturday.
Once the museum has reopened, the cafe will appear up the stairs and to the left, as indicated by the sign next to the doorway.
Cafe unlocks, takeout coffee and how to make friends with Brewster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Two days after you speak to Brewster on a Kapp'n island and return to Blathers, the museum cafe will open.
Cafe features such as multiplayer and amiibo inviting - see later in this article - are immediately available, but one of your goals should be to develop your relationship with Brewster to unlock new features.
Initially, Brewster will offer up very little. You can sit on a stool and order a coffee for 200 Bells (or three, as you can keep returning as many times as you like) but Brewster will remain fairly tight lipped.
Visit Brewster and have a coffee once per day and things will gradually open up over time. This includes:
- The option to blow on your coffee to cool it down
- Ordering takeout coffee
- Being gifted coffee beans and recipes
- Offer of adding pigeon milk to your coffee
All of the above can take between three and seven days to happen. Ultimately, visit daily and Brewster will begin to open up to you.
How to invite friends and villagers to Brewster's cafe
Based on the 2.0 update preview video, we know the cafe has several features based around villagers, friends and amiibo.
As with any cafe, you can expect it to be popular with local residents - and Animal Crossing's is no different. Not only can you personally call in for a cup of joe, but friends and villagers can join in alongside you.
You can participate with other players in the cafe in the following ways:
How villagers and island staff will appear in Brewser's cafe
As with the museum, Nook's Cranny and other island locations, Villagers will periodically make an appearance in the cafe.
As with those instances, it appears to be largely random. However, one key difference is island staff - such as Isabelle - can also show up from time to time.
Inviting other players to the cafe
Other Animal Crossing players can make use of your cafe when using online multiplayer. As with any other location, once the cafe is built, they must find the museum on the map, make their way over, and situate themselves there.
Inviting other Villagers using amiibo
If you want specific villagers or other characters to appear in the cafe, you can summon them using amiibo figures or cards by using the amiibo station on the left side of the cafe.
Doing so will also see them possibly invite other characters along with them. Some examples include:
- Mabel (invites fellow Able sisters Sable and Labelle)
- Kapp'n (invites Leila, Grams and Leilani)
- Joan (invites Daisy Mae)

The Animal Crossing 2.0 update and Happy Home Paradise is here! We can help you with the new additions - including where to find Brewster, Gyroids, new villagers, ordinances, new fences, storage shed, new hairstyles, Froggy Chair, group stretching and Kapp'n boat tours. Cooking is now unlockable, so you need to know how to make both flour and sugar, as well as how to grow carrots, potatoes and tomatoes. Meanwhile, if you're new to Animal Crossing, our New Horizons tips can help with the basics. From the off, there's fish and bugs to catch, flowers and fruit to grow with. One long term goal is building your Happy Home Academy score. Finally, you need tools such as the new ladder and vaulting pole to fully explore.
Cafe secrets and what else do we know about Brewster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Here is a list of smaller details about Brewster which are easily missed - and some facts about him from previous games. These could be considered some 'spoilers' here - so read ahead at your own risk!
- If you or a friend don't have enough Bells to pay for coffee, then Brewster will serve you water (thanks to mel-cora on reddit for confirming this and for the below image):
- While you can invite an array of characters to the cafe using amiibo cards and figures, attempting to invite Brewster in this way will tell you he is working at the Roost and that you should "speak with him directly".
- If you invite a former villager via amiibo, their discussion will change to reflect they used to live on the island:
- The cafe has a few interesting details - including a backroom filled with Gyroids, and several framed pictures by the front door showing The Roost from previous games (City Folk / Let's Go to the City and New Leaf) and of Blathers:
- Once you have unlocked takeout coffee, drinking it will allow you to move trees or break stones in the same way consuming fruit would. You can also gift it to fellow villagers - though they won't be very impressed if you do...
- 'Visit the Roost for a Coffee Break' will be one of the Nook Miles daily tasks you can collect once the cafe is open.
- Like the museum itself, the cafe is open 24-7. Don't overdo it on the coffee now!
- In previous games, blowing on your coffee to cool it down would offend Brewster greatly.
- In New Leaf, you could have a part time job at the Roost after visiting so many days in a row, where you must take orders of Villagers who come into visit:
Whether you're visiting Brewster solo, or bringing friends or other villagers with you, we hope you have a lovely time at the Roost!
