Destiny 2 Forerunner quest: How to complete Magnum Opus, use the Strange Key and Anomalous Access Card
How to get the Bungie 30th Anniversary exotic sidearm.
Destiny 2's Forerunner is an Exotic quest released alongside the Bungie 30th Anniversary update.
Inspired by the Magnum from the Halo series, unlike the Gjallarhorn which requires purchase of the DLC, the Forerunner quest Magnum Opus is free for all players.
The quest steps has you start by gathering the returning Strange Coin currency before levelling Dares of Eternity and making use of Xur's Strange Key.

How to start Forerunner quest Magnum Opus in Destiny 2
First, you need to complete a round of the Dares of Eternity activity, which is newly introduced in the Bungie 30th Anniversary update. You'll play this as soon as you load into the game following the update, rewarding you with a Treasure Key.
Head to Eternity - which is a newly added area on the Director screen, below the Moon - and visit Xur's Treasure Hoard.
Speak to Xur, who will progress the To The Daring Go The Spoils quest step by handing over the Treasure Key earned from completing a round of Dares of Eternity, then opening the nearby chest.
Return to Xur, who will then give you the Magnum Opus quest.
How to complete the Magnum Opus quest
The bulk of the Magnum Opus quest revolves around Eternity currencies, bounties or ranks. In short - expect to be playing a fair amount of Dares of Eternity.
First, you need to collect seven Strange Coins then visit Starhorse in Eternity. Strange Coins are a returning currency from the first Destiny, and can be found from a variety of sources.
This includes playlist activities (Strikes, Crucible, Gambit), Heroic Public Events, Bounty completions and playing Dares of Eternity.
Whichever way you get the seven Strange Coins, visit Starhorse - they will also reside in the Xur's Treasure Horde, just down the steps.
The next step is to complete up to three Starhorse Bounties. We say up to three, as these Bounties are in three tiers - bronze, silver and gold - and the higher the difficulty, the faster this part of the quest will complete.
The challenge here is not biting off more than you can chew. Since each bounty must be completed in a single Dares of Eternity round, it's best to only take on anything you know you can complete. Though these bounties do not expire, you can also only hold one at a time, so choose something you can comfortably manage in each round.
Once you have completed enough bounties, it's time to reach rank four in Strange Favor and unlock the Strange Key. Strange Favor is how you level up Xur as a vendor, and requires playing Dares of Eternity enough times until it unlocks.
Where to use the Strange Key and find the Anomalous Object Destiny 2
Once you have unlocked the Strange Key, you must visit the 'patrol' version of the Dares of Eternity area and find the Anomalous Object.
This can be accessed by turning around when you first enter Xur's Treasure Hoard, and enter the purple mist, transporting you to the area beyond.
To use the Strange Key, look to the right, where you'll see some triangle-shaped rocks at the far end.
It's the first of these you need to visit in order to use the Strange Key.
You know you are in the right place if you look towards the main area and see the Bungie logo forming out of the environment.
From here, there is then a path to take, which includes a jumping puzzle. It's fairly straightforward, but if it helps, here is Blank from YouTube to show you the route:
Once done, you'll find an object we won't spoil here. Interact with it, and you'll receive one final quest step - bring the Anomalous Object to Banshee in the Tower to see if he can repair it.
Visit Banshee in the Tower and the Forerunner Exotic is yours.
The Season of the Deep is here alongside the Into the Depths quest. You can know go fishing too! Don't forget to keep an eye on the Lost Sector and King's Fall challenge rotation schedule!
How to get the Forerunner Catalyst using the Anomalous Access Card in Destiny 2
Once you have the Forerunner Exotic, you can unlock the Forerunner Catalyst by continuing to rank up Strange Favour with Xur.
Upon reaching rank 16, you can acquire the Anomalous Access Card, which is used to unlock the Catalyst, according to the Destiny subreddit.
Once you have unlocked the Forerunner Catalyst, you need to defeat 700 enemies, unlocking The Rock perk - this converts grenades into fragmentation grenades after a final blow. You can see this briefly in action in the Bungie 30th Anniversary trailer, about 12 seconds in.
Best of luck playing Dares of Eternity and unlocking the Forerunner!
