Ubisoft to publish Bard's Tale in Europe
inXile's Acclaim refugee finds another home.
Ubisoft will publish Brian Fargo and inXile's quirky action role-playing game The Bard's Tale across Europe, the publisher announced today, and expects to ship PS2, Xbox and PC versions in March.
As you may know, The Bard's Tale has actually been around on the PS2 and Xbox for quite some time in the US, where it picked up some very solid reviews in late October, but following the demise of original European publisher Acclaim last September it has been caught in limbo on this side of the pond.
But now all is well. Which is good news for the likes of us, as we've long been interested in Fargo and inXile's ARPG, which stars a sarcastic, self-centred bard whose primary motivation for adventuring is "coin and cleavage" rather than any half-baked notions of self-sacrifice.
Whether the game will be able to do enough to reinvent or at least refine the RPG conventions it so openly mocks is another matter entirely, but we'll be sure to let you know how it goes down in these quarters when we get our hands on it in the near future.
