Electronic Arts has ordered the recall of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 for PlayStation 2, according to a report on MCV this afternoon, after the publisher uncovered an unspecified technical problem, later characterised by director of European corporate communications Tiffany Steckler as an "unprecedented disc production issue".

"We have had only one per cent of [owners] call our customer service line to report an issue. It's a small number of people that's been affected, but we thought it was better to exchange copies all at once," she told MCV. "The fact we're going to the pains of exchanging all copies of the product shows how seriously we are taking this."

EA also pledged to ship a revised version of the game within three weeks in a letter designed to reassure retailers and consumers alike. It's not clear what you should do if you feel you've been affected, but we'd advise calling EA's customer service line, or phoning the shop where you bought the game and finding out how they're addressing the problem.

The PS2 version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005, which came out last Friday, is the only version released in Europe that supports online play - something that helped propel it to number three in Chart-Track's PlayStation 2 Top 20 and number four in the charts overall - behind The Sims 2, Star Wars: Battlefront and Burnout 3: Takedown.
