Assassin's Creed Odyssey's best side quests you shouldn't miss
We give you the grand minotaur.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey has a frankly embarrassing amount of side quests. Its missions number in the hundreds, with vast swathes of the game entirely optional in order to see the ending of Assassin's Creed Odyssey's core "family" story.
But there are several other story strands you'll find yourself beginning to explore as you progress - hunting the Cult of Kosmos, defeating mythical creatures, romancing most of the Greek world - which see you trekking further off the beaten track.
And beyond that, there are entire islands apparently unconnected to anything else going on filled with weapons, armour, engravings and legendary loot.
These areas of Odyssey's vast Aegean map are simply there to be discovered, with sidequests aplenty to keep that XP ticking up.
To make sure you don't miss anything, we've collected a list of Assassin's Creed Odyssey side quests you won't want to sail past. These missions were chosen not just because they variously award you with unique items and XP (although many do), or because they offer up a unique piece of story or lore. They're simply our favourites from the game - and all are well worth your time.
Age is Just a Number
- Location: Sanctuary of Delphi, Phokis
An amorous older woman is having trouble with her sex life. And by that, we mean her husband. You gather ingredients for an arousing elixir, but even with it, her husband still claims he can't keep up. How much are you willing to help?
Whether you choose to walk away or take a more hands on approach to solving this quest will determine your final reward - and whether you get payment altogether. Sometimes, it's best to just give people what they want.
This mission should be available as soon as you enter the region, which is available early in the game after you leave Kephallonia.
Family Values
- Location: Opous, Lokris
A man named Supideo has locked himself in a cage after being told by an oracle he will do harm to his family. The setup is a fairly standard fetch quest, but you won't see the twist at the end coming. (Although, clearly the oracle did.)
The outcomes here vary entirely on your actions throughout the quest to date, which make the eventual revelation even more of a surprise. When we played this through, Supideo was left being sick over himself at the outcome. Sorry, Supideo.
You'll need to be a little further into the game for this one - head to the easily spottable red lake area (it's the only one in the game) and you'll find this mission's quest icon along the coast.
Prince of Persia
- Location: Megara, Megaris
Mechanically this quest isn't all that exciting - a mysterious blind man of some importance tells you stories as you tour Odyssey's world - but there are revelations here regarding the history of the Assassins, and acts a direct setup to the game's weighty Legacy of the First Blade expansion.
Originally a pre-order bonus, this quest can now be claimed via the Ubisoft Club menu. Head there from Odyssey's title menu and redeem your Club Points (you'll have gained enough just by playing Odyssey for a few hours and finishing its first few story chapters).
The Grand Minotaur
- Location: Pephka, Krete
Odyssey sets up a fight with the legendary minotaur a little earlier than expected in this short quest found within Pephka. The streetwise young Arsenios offers to give you a guided tour to a local cave where the beast is hiding - and a great discount on an elixir made from its feet. "It's just like pater always said," Arsenios says, 'never leave home without the ground up hooves of a mythical creature." All isn't quite as it seems.
You'll find a number of fun Minotaur-themed quests here, most of which have pun names. If you're new to the region, start with Minotaur de Force, found just north of the appropriately-named Minotaur Hills.
Sparring with Roxana
- Location: Hydrea Island, Obsidian Islands
Meeting and training with Roxana sparks a quest chain which leaves you fighting against her in the mighty Battle of One Hundred Hands tournament (think like a Greek battle royale). Roxana's a great character and another one of Assassin's Creed Odyssey's romance options - which leaves you with some big decisions to make about having to enter against your new friend.
On the one hand, Greek warriors always wish to die with honour in battle. But on the other, are you really going to slay your new BFF just to walk away with a shiny piece of armour as a prize? As ever, your choices throughout this mission play into the chain's final outcome - and whether tragedy can be avoided.
The Goddesses Hunt
- Location: Sacred Lands of Apollo, Phokis
This long chain of missions lets you fight and be rewarded for slaying some of the toughest enemies in the game - oversized wild boars, deer and wolves. (Seriously, the Kalydonian Boar is the absolute worst.)
As you return the pelts of legendary creatures to the Daughters of Artemis, you rise through their ranks and grow closer to their leader - and closer a big final decision on what to do when all is said and done.
The Show Must Go On
- Location: Kingdom of Pelops, Elis
This is the classic RPG quest where you have to act in a play, via dialogue options, and retell some of the game's story as a performance. Cue lots of the game's voice actors pretending to be very bad at their job as they play terrible thespians. How well can you remember your history lessons (and the game's own opening missions, which are by now probably dozens of hours back?
The Show Must Go On is one of the game's free DLC sidequests added post-launch, so make sure your game is up to date and you'll be ready to go.

A Business Opportunity
- Location: Kos, Southern Sporades
This questline features the return of Markos, the fast-talking merchant from the very beginning of Odyssey who took you in as a child. Ubisoft's developers have said they deliberately hid this on a remote island to reward those who found it - and it's very easily missable. Suffice to say, Markos is up to his old schemes.
The quest marker for this one can be found when you reach Kos, hovering over a local fort. That's right, you will find Markos locked up in a cell - and you have to escort him safely out before he can rope you in to his latest plans.
Trouble in Paradise
- Location: Mykonos, The Silver Islands
This brilliant web of interconnecting sidequests begins with Trouble In Paradise, as you join a small band of rebels to take down the tyrannical ruler of the Silver Islands.
The rebel group's two leaders, Kyra and Thaletas, are already a couple - but both grow close to you as you help their cause and uncover more about their connection to the leader you're helping overthrow.
This is as good as Odyssey gets to creating a unique, standalone cast of characters and a set of sprawling side missions with tough narrative decisions that all come together in a final set of scenes which vary wildly based on your choices.
All done with these, the main story, and looking for more things to do? We suggest hunting down Orichalcum locations in Assassin's Creed Odyssey - there's plenty out there to find!
