Assassin's Creed Unity walkthrough and game guide
The campaign, co-op and collectibles covered.
Assassin's Creed Unity, the strictly next-gen and PC edition of Ubisoft's blockbuster franchise, is out today. Pre-Revolution Paris is the destination for Arno's latest adventure, and as well as the usual feast of rooftop acrobatics and sneaky infiltrations, there's co-op action for the first time in the series.
We're working our way through the game now and writing up our exploits for this walkthrough, so check back often for daily updates. Once we've wrapped up Unity's main story, we'll also go back and add some other useful stuff like collectible locations and co-op and combat guides. To help newcomers get straight into the action, we've assembled a few simple tips further down this page.

Nostradamus Enigmas
Nostradamus Enigma guide
How to solve all of those obscure Nostradamus Enigma riddles.
Unlocking chests
As you play through the game you'll notice various types of chests scattered around the world. You'll need to do something different to get inside them, depending on the colour. To get inside a Gold chest, for example, you'll need to link up with uPlay, while blue chests are tied to use of the game's companion app. Red chests can be opened with lockpicks and white ones can be freely rummaged.
The colour of each chest also determines the value of the rewards you can expect to receive. White ones rarely contain something worth getting excited about, while red ones are often much better. Regardless, it's worth trying to hoover up as much of this loot as you can while you play through the game.
Purchasing weapons
If you've looted plenty of cash you'll be able to treat yourself to some new weapons. Make grabbing a pistol or a rifle a priority so that you have something to pick off ranged enemies more easily. They'll make a hell of a racket when they go off, so aren't exactly subtle, but the benefit of range means you shouldn't have too much trouble escaping from your newly found unwanted attention.
Once you've bagged a decent gun, you should upgrade your sword. You'll be using this weapon more than pretty much any other, so it pays to look after it. Grab something with strong damage and speed attributes like the Foil which has a good balance of stats.
Synch points
Make sure you grab as many Synch points as you can as you explore the world, as it'll make getting around town a good deal easier. As well as providing fast-travel options, you'll also be able to expand the map by grabbing these, and give yourself many more escape options should you find yourself overwhelmed.
Save the people
The ordinary people of Paris are just as much in danger as the aristocracy during the uncertainties of the Revolution. Keep your eyes peeled for Crowd Events as you play the game. Some of the tasks you'll be given will help you unlock new rewards.
Master the cover system
Fun though melee combat is in Unity, there are many occasions when you'll need to hide from the worst dangers the city has to offer. Hiding around corners will help you lose guards in very crowded areas, and you can enter cover mode against walls and objects by running up and activating the button that's indicated.
Blend in
Another essential part of surviving in the game is to blend in with the crowd. Look for large gatherings of people, then sidle your way up-close to them so you become lost amongst the throng. Just don't get too close to guards at first or they'll clock you regardless.
