At long last, an official BTCC game is coming

TOCA its time.

It has taken its sweet time, but at long last an official game for one of the most entertaining racing series in the world is on its way, with Motorsport Games working to bring an all-new BTCC title out in 2022.

"I'm proud to say that the huge demand from the BTCC and TOCA game fans is being answered," said BTCC boss Alan Gow. "Just like the original BTCC/TOCA game, this will be a dedicated BTCC game featuring all the cars, all the teams, all the drivers and all the circuits - not merely some elements partially incorporated into an existing game."

Codemasters' TOCA series remains a beloved high point for the racing genre, and the new BTCC game is being looked after by some Codemasters veterans. Paul Coleman is working as creative director, having previously been responsible for Dirt Rally and the more hard-edged take on off-road driving from the Dirt series.

"There is a clear demand and appetite for a new touring car game, and we are delighted that we are going to make that a reality," said Coleman. "Many of the staff in our studio have fond memories of the TOCA game series and my first job in the games industry was actually working on TOCA Race Driver 2 as a QA Tester. We have some exciting plans that we cannot wait to reveal."

If you're not familiar with BTCC, then it's perhaps best described as the UK's answer to NASCAR, with a bunch of elbows-out racers taking familiar machinery and knocking it to pieces around the likes of Kent rather than Kentucky. The new season is set to make its belated start this coming weekend at Donington Park, and is viewable on free-to-air ITV4.
