Battlefield 1 beta had an enormous 13.2m players

Salute.

EA may just have a hit on its hands - Battlefield 1's beta was played by a staggering 13.2 million people between 30th August and 8th September.

To put that amount in perspective, let's take a look at other big-name open betas. Destiny's beta had 4.6m players. The Division had 6.4m. Star Wars Battlefront had 9.5m.

EA trumpeted the figure to fans today and named it the most successful EA beta in history.

Developer DICE broke down the most popular class deployed in the beta: 30 per cent picked Assault; 28 per cent Scout; 21 per cent Support; and 10 per cent Medic (the remaining 11 per cent deployed as tanker / pilot / cavalry classes).

Video games analyst ZhugeX, from China-based financial advisor Niko Partners, points out that all of the above games went on to sell more than their beta playerbase after three months of launch.

Actual sales of 13.2m would no doubt make EA and DICE very happy. Rival shooter Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has a beta next month. It'll be interesting to see how the numbers compare.
