Capcom has lifted the lid on the multiplayer modes available in Bionic Commando: Rearmed.

These will be restricted to offline play, according to IGN, and be presented in a zoomed-out 2D perspective so all four players can see what's going on.

There are the usual offerings of Deathmatch and Last Man Standing, but the key differentiator will be your bionic arm.

The grappling hook can be extended to block incoming projectiles, used to grab power-ups with, and also forms the basis of a game mode where the weapons do no damage but push you around - with the idea being to not touch the floor.

This adds another course to an already rather meaty dish that has exceeded the Live Arcade size-limit of 150MB and been classed by Microsoft as a special exception.

It suggests that Rearmed will be much more than a NES remake cobbled-together in order to promote the next-generation Bionic Commando game coming out this year.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed is due out on Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC in May.
