Gaijin Games has announced Runner 2, its sequel spin-off of Bit.Trip Runner.

The game's title in full: Bit.Trip Presents: Runner 2, Future Legend of Rhythm Alien.

Runner 2, which stars Bit.Trip's CommanderVideo, is due out on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade next year.

It features the same rhythmic eighties arcade style gameplay, with new 3D visuals in high definition. There are multiple player characters, ten new abilities, Trophies/Achievements and leaderboard support.

"We definitely are going to add a bunch of new stuff to Runner 2, but we do not want to overcomplicate the game in the process," said the developer on the recently launched Runner 2 website.

"This is particularly an issue with the abilities CommanderVideo can perform. The first game was complex enough with just five abilities, so we are figuring out ways to keep the game simple but still have exciting new possibilities."

There have been six of Bit.Trip games in total for various platforms, including the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii and iOS.

Bit.Trip Flux launched earlier this year to a 7/10 from Eurogamer's Kristan Reed.
