Blizzard confirms Titan MMO project
Looking for "best talent in the industry".
Blizzard has confirmed that its next MMO is currently going by the title of Titan.
Earlier this month, MMOGameSite published what it claimed was a leaked Blizzard release schedule covering the next five years. The document showed a late 2013 release date for something called Titan, which it speculated to be the developer's new, unannounced MMO IP.
Destructoid asked World of Warcraft executive producer Frank Pearce about the rumour at last weekend's Spike VGA event, and duly got confirmation of Titan's existence.
"Titan is... the media is not meant to know anything about that. It's our next gen MMO and we've only started talking about it in a limited fashion because we want to leverage the fact that we're working on something like that for the purpose of recruiting – getting some of the best talent in the industry on that."
Of course, Titan could just be a working title for the new game, but Blizzard isn't saying. Very little else is known about the game, other than it's got nothing to do with World of Warcraft.
Earlier this year, Blizzard Mike Morhaime said, "We are working on a second MMO. We're thinking of it as sort of a next-generation MMO. It's not a sequel to World of Warcraft - we want to do something a bit different."
"We're not trying to replace World of Warcraft. We think that World of Warcraft can continue co-existing with our new MMO and some people might prefer the new one, some people might still prefer to play World of Warcraft."
VG247 later reported that the earliest we can expect a reveal of the game is in 2012.
Next up from Blizzard will be long-in-development action RPG Diablo III. According to the leaked document, that's due for release on PC at the tail end of 2011. Judging by recent job listings, there may also be a console version in the works.
