Blockbuster to close all remaining UK stores
All operations to cease by the end of this weekend.
Struggling DVD and games rental chain Blockbuster will close all of its stores by the end of this weekend, administrators have announced.
91 stores remained after two rounds of closures in as many months. 808 people will now lose their jobs.
Blockbuster began the year with 528 UK stores, and a workforce of 4190 people.
"It is with regret that we have to make today's announcement, we appreciate this is a difficult time for all concerned and would like to thank staff for their professionalism and support over the past month," administrators Simon Thomas and Nick O'Reilly told BBC News.
"Unfortunately, we were unable to secure a buyer for the group as a going concern and as a result had to take the regrettable action to close the remaining stores."
The chain first slipped into administration in January, when 324 outlets were shut. Another 72 stores closed in November, and 62 more last week.
All Blockbuster stock will be sold this weekend at up to 90 per cent discount.
Blockbuster's UK doors will then close for the last time on Sunday evening.
