Bloodborne tops Japan sales chart
Shifts over 150k units.
PlayStation 4-exclusive Bloodborne managed to shift 152,567 copies during its launch week in Japan.
From Software's dark role-player topped Media Create's weekly software chart, ahead of numerous other new entries (thanks, NeoGAF).
For context, Sony has sold just over 1.25m PS4 consoles in the country - meaning around one in eight owners bought the game.
Around 45k PS4 consoles were sold over the seven day period, a bump of 12k from the week before when PS4 received an earlier boost thanks to Yakuza 0.
PS3, PS4 and Vita versions of the latest One Piece anime spin-off game all separately entered the top 10, as did Vita and PS3 versions of Sword Art Online: Lost Song, which is based off of a light novel series.
Apart from Bloodborne, all of the above were published by Bandai Namco, which released a number of other games too, before the end of the financial year.
The only game in the top 10 not for a Sony platform was 3DS title Theatrhythm Dragon Quest, Square Enix's follow-up to its rhythm-based Final Fantasy games.
While Bloodborne's 152k copies is nothing to be sniffed at, Japan's home console market continues to struggle. 2014 saw Japanese hardware sales slip to their lowest point in 24 years as gamers move ever-more onto smartphones and tablets.
The PS4's Japanese sales are at odds with the console's performance elsewhere. Sony has seen its machine smash retail records in the west and was comfortably ahead of Xbox One in both Europe and North America overall last year.
But in Japan, the PS4's launch failed to reverse the falling sales of Japanese consoles. Even Sony has admitted that its console's Japanese performance was merely "okay".
