Bloodborne: how to kill Mergo's Wet Nurse, then find the Blood Rock and Choir Bell

How to kill Mergo's Wet Nurse in Bloodborne.

This article explains how to kill Mergo's Wet Nurse in Bloodborne, following on from Micolash, Host of the Nightmare, then find Iosefka's Blood Vial.

If you're interested in more advice, our complete Bloodborne walkthrough and for the DLC our The Old Hunters guide and walkthrough can help.

It helps to be agile in this next boss fight, as Mergo's Wet Nurse has a number of sword-wielding arms that can really mess up your day if you lose concentration. It can also attack you from a surprising amount of range too, and can rattle off several attacks in rapid succession. You've got two basic tactics for defeating the boss: either stick to the rear of the creature for as much of the fight as possible, or draw an attack out, then dodge out of the way before delivering your own counter-attack.

How to kill Mergo's Wet Nurse

As you'd expect from the above, the simplest method is to stick to the rear of the creature - you may still come a cropper to a few attacks, but if you keep chipping away you'll be able to restore a little of your lost health. Just keep in mind that the Wet Nurse will leap away from you from time to time, so you'll have to re-position yourself throughout the fight.

If you're up for the challenge though, you can still fight the creature from the front. Just make sure you have a fast weapon in your hand if you're darting in and out a lot, or a slower weapon with better reach if you want to exercise just a little more caution.

As the fight wears on, watch out for when the Wet Nurse lifts its hands into the air and conjures up a purple ball. When this happens, make sure you get behind the creature as quickly as you can. When the darkness arrives, the boss will go into a bit of a frenzied attack, but if you're to the rear you shouldn't face too many problems.

More problematic are the boss clones that appear by you during this phase. They appear right next to you, and you must dodge the incoming attack while remaining relatively close to the main boss. If you move too far off, your target will vanish and you'll find it tough to track it down again. If this does happen, just relocate your target as quickly as you can. (These clones will attempt to shove you away from the boss, so it's really important that you roll away from the attacker in the direction of the real target.)

When the boss has been killed, interact with the Wet Nurse's Lunarium lamp. If you return to Hunter's Dream at this point, you'll find the workshop is on fire, but you can still make use of it.

How to get a Blood Rock in Bloodborne

Before heading into the next boss fight, you're going to want to track down a Blood Rock so you can upgrade your weapon to +10. To get one, first whizz over to the Mergo's Loft: Middle lamp, then go upstairs and take the stairs on your left.

You should be able to spot a lift in the corner to your right. While it's travelling down, jump off when you get to an opening, then head along the hall until you come to a chest. Take the Infected Organ from it, but watch out for the Brain Trust just outside. The best strategy here is to just run past the creature while its back is turned.

The next two along are a lot harder to avoid though. Make your way left and wait until the nearest one goes right of the bridge. Now run as fast as you can towards the building in front of you. You'll still get walloped and frenzied, but you can heal through the damage and use a Sedative to make it into the next room along. Stay away from the doorway to avoid taking any more damage.

Use Pebbles to draw these nasty spiders to you one by one and kill them all. When they're dead, go through the door over in the corner, then keep heading forwards until you're in the next room. Head to the right side of this room, then go through the door towards a lever. Yank it to lower down the Brain, then go back into the last room and jump down through the hole.

Make your way back towards the Mergo's Loft: Middle lamp, then go over the bridge so you can return to the location of the Micolash fight. Carry on down the stairs on your left, then take the next set of stairs down, before heading straight forwards and taking the circular stairs down. When you come to a crossroads you can keep heading down if you wish, and fight the Tiny Gents and Lady Gent for a Moon rune and some Sedatives.

Otherwise, head left and go through the mist, then head forwards and go down the next two sets of stairs. Take a right, but keep your eyes peeled for a passage on your left as you go. Go down this passage until you come to a gate which you can open using the Iron Door Key you nabbed a little earlier on in the game.

Travel along the path until you come to a pair of corpses. Loot the goodies from them, then go upstairs to find another pile of corpses. If you hadn't pulled that lever earlier, you'd have had to deal with a brain to your left, but the good news is you've already dealt with that problem. Drop down to get a Blood Rock, then go through the gap and down onto the bridge to enter the castle again.

How to get the Choir Bell in Bloodborne

Carry on up the stairs right in front of you until you come to a big room. On your left are a pair of spiders, while a Brain Trust and a chest await you on the other side. It's worth fighting for that chest, as it contains a Choir Bell - a rare healing spell in Bloodborne.

Go back toward the Mergo's Loft: Base lamp, then enter the castle. Use the lift to get up to the next floor, then go down the stairs towards where you met the first Lady Gent. There's now a lift in the centre of this area, so enter it and drop down. Now head forwards and destroy the brain to get the Living String item.
