Broken Sword 2 – Remastered announced
iPhone before Xmas, PC/Mac early 2011.
Revolution Software has remastered cult 1997 point and click adventure game Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror and will release it on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad before Christmas.
A PC and Mac version is promised for "very early next year".
It features a new interactive digital comic from Watchmen co-creator Dave Gibbons, fully animated facial expressions, improved background and animation graphics, improved cut scenes, high quality music, and a context-sensitive hint system and diary.
"Dropbox" integration allows cloud saving so gamers can play the same adventure across multiple devices. Game Centre integration allows in-game achievements.
In the game, journalist Nico Collard stumbles across a mysterious ancient artefact. As you'd expect, she and companion George Stobbart end up in all sorts of trouble.
Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror – Remastered follows the "incredible success" of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars – The Director's Cut last year.
"The original Broken Sword went to number one in the App store, was BAFTA-nominated and received the most fantastic reviews, both from reviewers and the game's audience on the App store – as well as appealing to fans of the series, the game reached a whole new audience," Revolution managing director Charles Cecil said.
"I am thrilled to be able to unveil this updated version.
"Publishing through the App Store has offered extraordinary opportunities. As well as allowing us to communicate directly with our audience, we are now in the position where we can re-work our original games while simultaneously writing new adventure titles. It is an extraordinary time for the games industry and for independent developers in particular."
