Warzone best ZRG 20mm loadout: Our ZRG 20mm class setup recommendation and how to unlock the ZRG 20mm explained
How to get the most out of the ZRG 20mm in Call of Duty: Warzone.
The ZRG 20mm in Warzone is one of the more powerful sniper rifles to join the fray in both Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War, almost guaranteeing a one shot kill anywhere except the legs.
Though it has a slow fire rate and a clip capacity that you're gonna want to mod, but don't worry, since we've got you covered with our preferred ZRG 20mm loadout to make the most out of this new rifle. Either way - if your target isn't wearing armor, the ZRG is likely to take them down.
Arriving on April 7th, 2021, the ZRG 20mm first debuted in Warzone and Cold War: Black Ops in the second half of Season 2 - and requires a specific challenge or Blueprint to obtain.

How to unlock the ZRG 20mm in Warzone
The ZRG 20mm debuted in the second half of Season 2, and can be acquired through the use of a shop Blueprint or in-game challenge.
The challenge to unlock this weapon tasks you with earning 2 Longshot medals across 10 different matches using Sniper Rifles.
This can be done in either Black Ops Cold War or Warzone. If you own the former, then we highly recommend prioritizing that route for a quicker access.
In Black Ops Cold War, playing Nuketown 24/7 is a good option, but we personally opted for the Snipers Only Moshpit. This mode guarantees maps (including Nuketown's) that allow for long distance shots on both sides of the team.
If you're not used to doing Longshots, the thumb rule is that whenever you find a good camping spot, make sure to back away as much as possible, provided you still have visibility. The distance can be tricky to calculate, and you will often find that just staying close to a window won't usually count.
But if you find yourself in a good spot in the corner of that room, for example, it's best to just stand up and shoot whoever appears in your sight first.
You only need two per match, so don't worry about becoming an easier target than usual; just get them out of the way fast and then switch to your normal playstyle. Keep in mind that if your Longshot doesn't kill the enemy, there is a short window where if a teammate actually gets the kill, you can get the medal from the assist.
If you're opting for Warzone to complete the challenge, we recommend avoiding battle royale and instead jumping directly into Plunder. This will save tonnes of time since you don't have to worry about whether or not you'll emerge victorious from the Gulag encounter.
If you fall in battle, you will reappear in a manner of seconds. As for the specific sniper rifle, we went for the LW3 Tundra, but it's a matter of personal choice, ultimately!
Following Season 2, it's likely the ZRG 20mm will then become available as part of an in-game weapon challenge, similar to previous Battle Pass weapons such as the MAC-10 in Season 1.
Best Warzone ZRG 20mm loadout and attachments
The ZRG 20mm introduces itself as a bolt-action sniper rifle that packs fast bullet velocity with a slow fire rate. It has high damage against vehicles - which is important to keep in mind - and deals a 1-shot kill to the head, shoulders, torso, and stomach.
In addition, you can hold your breath to steady your weapon - this allows for around five seconds of steady aim until it has to 'recharge' itself to be used again.
Below are our recommendations for an optimal ZRG 20mm loadout, as well as the corresponding levels for each:
- Muzzle: Agency Moderator (unlocks at level 46)
- Barrel: 43.9" Combat Recon (unlocks at level 30)
- Laser: SWAT 5mw Laser Sight (unlocks at level 31)
- Ammunition: 5 Rnd Magazine (unlocks at level 8)
- Handle: Serpent Wrap (unlocks at level 44)
The Agency Moderator's top spot got threatened by a buff to the Sound Moderator, but we're still opting for our former choice.
The increase in aim down sight speed is good to have, but we'll be tackling that regard with two other attachments in this build, whereas sprint to fire speed works best with a faster rifle like the Swiss K31. Adding bullet velocity, vertical recoil control and longer effective damage range works best with the ZRG.
Speaking of bullet velocity, we're strengthening it an extra notch with the 43.9" Combat Recon. Your aiming stability will be hit slightly by this, but don't worry since it will be compensated with the rest of the build.
The SWAT 5mw Laser Sight might sound like an odd addition, but it's crucial to improve the aim down sight of the weapon, which is slow by nature. Your aim walking movement speed will be decreased to compensate for it, but it won't make a huge difference.
You're also going to want to change the clip size as soon as possible, since the ZRG only holds three bullets per clip.
Having a couple extra opportunities to land a shot is crucial. No need to go for anything fancy as the 5 Rnd Magazine will do the job just fine. Reload quickness is affected slightly in return, but it's worth the trade-off.
Lastly, the Serpent Wrap impacts your sprint to fire speed negatively, but capitalizes on that aim down sight speed even further. The last two attachments are key to compensate one of the biggest downsides of this weapon.
Warzone Season 5 is almost here! If you want to learn more about firepower from previously, we explain the best Welgun loadout, best Cooper Carbine loadout, best Gorenko Anti-Tank Rifle loadout, best STG44 loadout, best MP40 loadout, best Automaton loadout, best BAR loadout, best Combat Shotgun loadout, best Type 100 loadout, and best Kar98k loadouts.
Best Warzone ZRG 20mm class setup, perks and equipment
Here's our choices for the best items - such as equipment and Perks - to make the best ZRG 20mm class setup in Warzone:
- Perk 1: Cold-Blooded (Unlocks at level 29)
- Perk 2: Overkill (Unlocks at level 38)
- Perk 3: Tracker (Unlocks at level 51)
- Secondary: FFAR 1 (Unlocks at level 40)
- Tactical: Heartbeat Sensor (Unlocks at level 30)
- Lethal: Claymore (Unlocks at level 1)
Cold-Blooded is a must so you can go undetected by the AI targeting system and thermal optics.
As usual, you should be using Overkill to carry two primary weapons, but the secondary is up to you.
We went for the versatility and rapid fire of the FFAR 1, but the PPSh-41 would also be perfect for close encounters to compensate for the rather long distance and slow fire rate of the ZRG.
Lastly, the Tracker works best to follow enemies' markers, so you can always have an extra pair of eyes on your surroundings.
Pairing this the Heartbeat Sensor to best spot close adversaries as well as a Claymore to cover your back if someone finds your camping corner makes for the perfect combination.
