Capcom throwing cash at SFIII: 3rd Strike

Forthcoming downloadable brawler Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition is to be a decidedly lavish affair, judging by comments from Capcom top brass.

Speaking during a live "Ask Capcom" Q&A, as reported by Siliconera, senior VP Christian Svensson revealed that the game has a bigger budget than 2008's excellent Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

"When I look at Street Fighter III, Street Fighter III is currently our highest budget - at least out of this office - the highest budget digital title we've done. It's higher than [Super Street Fighter II Turbo] HD Remix." he said.

"We're trying to raise the bar in a number of ways, no matter what, every time. Unless it's a straight opportunistic play, we're trying to raise the bar not just for Capcom, but for sort of the sector.

"Somebody's asking, 'A higher budget than HD Remix, even with all the new sprites [for that game]?' Yes, Street Fighter III's budget is higher than HD Remix, even when we had to make all the new sprites for HD Remix."

Community manager Seth Killian also chimed in, insisting, "I think you're gonna be very, very happy. If you like 3rd Strike, you've got nowhere to go but way, way up with this version."

Svensson didn't detail exactly how all that cash is being spent or when the game will be ready for release. However, he did suggest that we'd learn much more at E3 next month.

"You will be deluged with information in about four weeks," he promised.

No platforms have so far been confirmed for the game, which was announced at Comic-Con in July last year.
