Castlevania: Symphony of the Night rises on EU PSN
Only five years after it came out on XBLA and the US PSN.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night i.e. the game that coined the term "Metroidvania" is coming to the European PSN on 10th October, a scant five years after it was added to XBLA and the US PSN.
Still it's better late than never and the £9.99 purchase will be available as a PS One Classic on both PS3 and Vita.
This isn't the first time the game has been available on a Sony handheld, though. It was featured as an unlockable in Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP, though the version featured in that game plays in a relatively small window with thick, decorative borders framing the playing field.
Since the PSN Symphony of the Night is a PS One Classic it probably won't have widescreen support, the new voice-acting featured in Dracula X Chronicles, or cloud save transfers, but I've sent in a query to Konami just to be sure and will update as I hear back.
Our Simon Parkin gave the game a 9/10 when he reviewed its XBLA port in 2007. "Symphony of the Night presents exquisite design, extraordinary scope, aesthetic coherence and transcendent elegance mostly unmatched elsewhere on Xbox Live Arcade, or anywhere else for that matter," he said in his review.
