Cave Story 3DS gets US date
Cult indie platformer out in June.
The 3DS version of acclaimed indie platformer Cave Story arrives in US stores on 28th June, according to a Siliconera report.
As revealed last month, the game's visuals are being completely overhauled for Nintendo's new handheld.
"We've gone to a level of detail that probably is unheard of compared to what we did for the original WiiWare version," explained producer Tyrone Rodriguez.
"Primarily, this is based off of the original game. In a way, it's almost like a true 3D remake from scratch."
Alas, there's no word on a European release as of yet.
Created single-handedly by Japanese DIY developer Daisuke 'Pixel' Amaya, Cave Story first launched on PC back in 2004, with an updated WiiWare version following on last year, winning 9/10 from Eurogamer.
"If this game had been released on the NES 20 years ago, it would be recalled by a generation of players as a high point of the 8-bit era," wrote John Teti.
"The fact that console gamers are only getting their first crack at Cave Story in 2010 doesn't make the experience any less memorable."
A DSiWare version has also launched in the US, though is yet to make it over to Europe.
