Why?
Gears of War punches with the likes of Halo on Xbox 360. It's big, bold, brutal and brilliant.
Gears of War 1 was a visual feast for Xbox 360 and, by definition, Unreal Engine 3, which everyone and their aunt now uses. Eurogamer said: 8/10, in both a single-player and multiplayer review.
Gears of War 2 was better; more mature, more intelligent, more finessed. Eurogamer said: 9/10.
The Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection Tom Bramwell ploughed into in the summer of 2009.
Gears of War 3 was supposed to arrive early this year, in April. But for unknown reasons the game was pushed back to the autumn. Epic's said this wasn't because of the game's quality. And if you believe that, only explanation remains: Microsoft wants a big-name blockbuster for Xbox 360 this autumn.
Epic wants Gears of War 3 to take things a step futher. One of the best if overlooked additions are dedicated multiplayer servers, which will eradicate host advantage and provide credible, stable platforms for people to play on.
Gears of War 3 also puts a brilliant spin on wave-based co-op: be the enemy. You'll be cast as differing members of the locust army, including as a Boomer and Berserker, and you'll need to wipe the goodies out.
