Co-op platform puzzler Trine 4 gets its first gameplay trailer
And there's an Ultimate series bundle on the way.
Developer Frozenbyte has unveiled the first trailer for Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince - the latest instalment in its puzzle platformer series, which is scheduled to launch on PC, Switch, Xbox One, and PS4 this autumn.
Trine 4 was officially announced last October (not long after it was leaked via a European funding website), but details were extremely scant at the time. Now though, Frozenbyte has revealed that the game will reunite the series' usual cast - that's Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya - for a bout of platform puzzling that harkens back to the first two games. Which is to say that Trine 4 returns to the series' 2.5D roots, rather than repeating Trine 3's foray into full 3D.
"After years apart," explains Frozenbyte of Trine 4's story, "the Astral Academy has requested help from the three heroes to find Prince Selius, whose intensely dark nightmares have begun to slip into reality and wreak havoc on the waking world." Players can expect more physics-based puzzles (doable solo or with friends), new skills to unlock, a "completely revamped" combat system, "more epic boss fights than ever before", and, for the first time in the series, four-player co-op, both on- and offline. All of which looks a little something like this:
Frozenbyte has also announced the Trine: Ultimate Collection, which is due to launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC alongside Trine 4. This will bundle the newest game in the series together with Trine: Enchanted Edition, Trine 2: Complete Story, and Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power, and will be available both physically and digitally.
Sadly, there's no mention of the Trine: Ultimate Collection for Switch; instead, as previously announced, Frozenbyte is releasing the first three games in the Trine series individually on eShop (and together physically at a later date), with Trine 1 and 2 out so far.
