Codemasters ditches Online Pass for F1 2013

Retyred.

F1 2013 publisher Codemasters has confirmed this year's version of the game will no longer require an Online Pass to access multiplayer features.

F1 2012 featured a "VIP Pass" which locked away online functionality, but Codies confirmed the system had been dropped via an FAQ post on its official blog.

"We have taken the decision not to include a VIP Pass activation system in either F1 2013 and F1 2013: Classic Edition," a spokesperson for the publisher told Eurogamer in a statement.

"Players will not be required to activate multiplayer functionality via a VIP Pass code and we have no plans to replace the pass with an alternative paid-for activation system in the game when it launches this October."

The 2013 instalment of Codemasters' officially-licensed series launches on 4th October - just prior to this season's Korean Grand Prix.

This year has seen the games industry begin to turn away from the Online Pass model - third-party behemoth EA recently said it was dropping the system entirely.
