Compendium sales boost Dota 2 International prize pool over $10m
Biggest in eSports history.
Sales of the Compendium virtual booklet have boosted the Dota 2 International tournament prize pool over the $10m mark.
The Compendium costs £5.99 / $9.99 and lets players of Valve's hugely popular MOBA keep up to date on this year's tournament.
But there's a lot more to it than that. By playing Dota 2 you level up your Compendium, earn rewards for use in the game and collect player cards. In truth the Compendium is a game in of itself.
The International prize pool is increased by $2.50 with each Compendium sold, with Valve having fronted up $1.6m when it launched. $10M is comfortably the biggest eSports prize pool ever, surpassing the International 2013's $2.8m.
The prize pool even has its own set of stretch goals. Now it's hit the $10m mark, the Victory Prediction Taunt is unlocked. This lets you perform a voice taunt with your hero in the early stages of the game.
The International tournament runs from 18th to 21st July at the Key Arena in Seattle.
Dota 2 enjoyed an impressive 8.6 million unique players in the last month. Expect the prize pool to continue to rise in the run up to the tournament.
