Control - The Third Thing mission: How to solve the rail carriage puzzle explained
Your first steps in finding Hartman in the Fra Mauro AWE area.
The Third Thing, the second mission of the Control AWE DLC, begins when you talk to Langston in the Active Investigations office in the Investigations Sector.
Langston will task you with tracking down the escape Hartman, who will be hiding in both the Fra Mauro AWE area and the Eagle Limited AWE.
When you decide to search the Fra Mauro AWE area, you'll find your progress blocked by a number of puzzles, including the rail carriage puzzle.

Find Hartman in the Fra Mauro AWE area in Control explained
To look for Hartman in the Fra Mauro AWE area in the Control AWE DLC you need to start your journey by going through the right-hand door in the upper area of the Active Investigations area and take the elevator up to the next floor.
Upon reaching the next floor, claim the Control Point and then move the furniture to reach the room beyond. You'll be attacked by a number of Hiss upon entering this room, so be prepared for a fight.
Once you've defeated the Hiss, use Jessie's launch power to hold the light on the floor and then point it at the darkness covering the gateway to clear your way. There's also a chest in one of the toilets which can be freed from darkness using the light.
Continue on through the gate and defeat the Hiss that you encounter; just make sure you don't use your light as a weapon, because you're going to need it.
After defeating the Hiss, head into the small office on the right-hand side of the office space and use the light to destroy the darkness surrounding the Power Core inside.
Next, you'll want to take the light to the socket in the central office at the end of the short hallway and destroy the darkness surrounding it.
Now all you have to do is launch the Power Core onto the socket to return power to the button opposite, which, in turn, will open the elevator, allowing you to drop down to the lower access.

How to solve the rail carriage puzzle in the Fra Mauro AWE in Control
Dropping down the elevator will bring you to the first room in the lower access corridors which will bring you to the Far Mauro AWE in the Control AWE DLC. If you want to continue your journey, however, you need to solve the rail carriage puzzle.
The first step in solving this puzzle is to retrieve the Power Core on the far side of the room and place it on the socket connected to the computer bank using yellow cables.
Next, you'll want to move the rail carriage all the way to the right-hand side of the rail tracks by pressing the right-hand button on the computer bank.
Once the rail carriage is in the correct position, collect the Power Core and then place it on the socket atop the rail carriage. This will activate the light on the carriage, which, in turn, will destroy the darkness surrounding the socket opposite.
To complete the puzzle, all you have to do is launch the Power Core onto the now freed socket to open the doors, which will allow you to journey further into the Investigations Sector.
Going down the stairwell will bring you to a corridor, which will quickly fall dark, and you'll have to figure out how to escape the darkened corridor.
