Microsoft has snapped up the second series of cult comedy The Guild, which airs on the new Independent Video section of Xbox Live for free tomorrow.

There are 12 episodes planned in total, according to Reuters, plus a Christmas special. Each instalment is around four-to-seven minutes long and will be available simultaneously across all Xbox Live regions.

The Guild is an online sitcom about a group of friends who play in an MMORPG guild together. Felicia Day, who played character Vi in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, writes and also acts in the show.

She apparently had a rather long-term World of Warcraft habit, although the virtual world in The Guild is non-specific.

Over 10 million people watched the first series on the internet, and it won an ON Networks/SXSW Greenlight Award for Best Original Production.

Independent Video was introduced with the New Xbox Experience last week, and aims to offer original content to the 14 million Live members.

The Guild will also be offered on the MSN website and on Zune players, as well as on Watchtheguild.com four weeks after the Microsoft destinations.

Pop over to that website for a look at the first series of The Guild. It's quite good, actually.
