D3Publisher eyes Leipzig
Playable Dark Sector.
D3Publisher of Europe has spouted about what it will be showing at this year's Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany.
Of most interest to us is news of a playable version of Dark Sector, the third-person shooter from Digital Extremes - previously joined at the hip with Epic Games back in the original Unreal days.
On the surface it looks generic, but underneath it's actually quite different, as we found out from a recent viewing. You play a gritty CIA agent who's been infected with a virus that makes his body able to manifest powerful weapons like a huge Glaive. It's these abilities along with heavy inspiration from games like Zelda and Resi 4 that make it so interesting.
Dark Sector is due out on Xbox 360 and PS3 at the beginning of next year. Look out for our thoughts at the end of August.
We're also keen to get our hands on the playable version of Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire, a Wii-exclusive role-playing game from developer Land Ho!
It's traditional hackandslash territory with one big and scaly difference: dragons. You have to save the world from nasty flying reptiles by tracking down the dragon sword and using the beastly power within it.
When you do, you'll be transformed into a dragon and use the motion-sensing abilities of the console to emulate the creature's arms, wings, tail, fire and more.
Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire is due out on Wii this autumn.
Also on show are the Cartoon Network game Ben 10: Protector of Earth, and Ed, Edd and Eddy - a 2D action adventure for the Nintendo DS.
The Games Convention 2007 takes place in Leipzig between 22nd - 28th August. We'll be consuming it for your pleasure.
