Dark Souls 2 next-gen will run at 60fps/1080p
Enemy placement and AI has been tweaked too.
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin edition will run at 60fps/1080p on next-gen consoles.
Publisher Bandai Namco confirmed this of the PS4 version on the PlayStation Blog and IGN reports that this will be true of the Xbox One build as well.
This enhanced edition will also host upgraded lighting effects and cinematic filters. IGN has a comparison video detailing how the PS4 build stacks up to its last-gen and PC brethren.
That's all well and good from a performance standpoint, but that's not the only thing these next-gen versions will bring to Dark Souls 2. The PlayStation Blog noted that enemy and item locations have been changed, so you can't simply rely on memory this time around.
More terrifyingly, enemies will be more aggressive in their behaviour and will even follow you through fog gates. Yikes!
Weapon balance has been tweaked too. SCEA social media manager Sid Shuman noted that the Fire Long Sword (my weapon of choice for much of the game) seems to be noticably less durable this time around. Double yikes!
For more on Scholar of the First Sin, YouTuber VaatiVidya has detailed some of the newly scrambled elements in a recent video [below]. Finally, you'll actually need the torch to see in more dark areas than just The Gutter.
Scholar of the First Sin will contain all three Dark Souls 2 DLC packs along with a smattering of other new content that's just today been patched into the old version of the game for free. Care to give Drangleic another tour?
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin will be released on 7th April for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
