Dead Rising 3's co-op character revealed

Psycho bosses to be based off the seven deadly sins.

Dead Rising 3's co-op character, Dick, has been revealed.

The rhyming character names suggest the Nick & Dick duo should team up in an 80s brawler. But a zombie-slaying open-world comedy sounds good enough.

The newest playable character in Capcom's open-world zombie franchise was outed in a recent preview by the Financial Post, where it's reported that Dick is a big-rig truck driver who stopped in at "the wrong diner on the wrong day."

Dick will appear in the single-player campaign as well, though he won't necessarily be fighting alongside you. Rather he'll simply be one of many allies you'll meet throughout your journey.

According to the Financial Post's report, co-op partners will be able to wander "a significant distance apart from one another in any given stage." There will also be vehicles designed for co-op, with one player taking the driver's seat and the other operating as the gunner.

Excitingly, Dead Rising 3's co-op will keep track of whether you've completed a certain mission in someone else's game. So if you're on chapter one and you play through chapter three as Dick in a friend's game, you'll be given the option to skip that chapter when you get to it as Nick in your own playthrough.

The Financial Post also detailed the way the game handles bosses. There are two types of bosses: mandatory story-line characters and optional "Psychos," who are each based on one of the seven deadly sins. "The story behind the psychos is that they are survivors who have gone crazy in this outbreak, for whatever reason," explained senior producer Jason Leigh, not really selling the fiction.

Evidently these fellows make up the most offensive parts of the game and the developer was frequently given grief by various ratings boards over their inclusion. "Even in our home country of Japan, they're like 'guys... guys... come on,'" executive producer Josh Bridge laughed.

Greed has a necklace made of fingers.
