Destiny 2 Gjallarhorn quest: How to start And Out Fly the Wolves and unlock the Gjallarhorn

How to earn the classic Exotic Rocket Launcher.

Gjallarhorn, the iconic Exotic Rocket Launcher from Destiny 1 is arriving to Destiny 2 with a triumphant return after all these years.

If you took part in any raid during the first Destiny era, it's likely that you stumbled upon a Guardian wielding this weapon.

This rocket launcher was quite the standout, not just because of its Norse-based design but mainly due to its use of tracking rockets. With the right perks this weapon was unstoppable, and everyone was always on pursuit of a possible drop.

Whether or not the weapon will have the same sheer firepower in Destiny 2 is yet to see, but for now, this page details how to unlock Gjallarhorn, which requires you to know how to start And Out Fly the Wolves and the steps to complete the quest.

How to get Gjallarhorn in Destiny 2 in brief

Here's a quick rundown of the steps needed to obtain Gjallarhorn:

  1. Complete the Dares of Eternity event (begins automatically after downloading the Bungie 30th Anniversary update)
  2. Talk to Xur in the Treasure Hoard and pick up the And Out Fly the Wolves quest
  3. Talk to Shaw Han in the Cosmodrome
  4. Complete the Grasp of Avarice dungeon
  5. Talk to Shaw Han in the Cosmodrome
  6. Collect Wolfpack Rounds by defeating powerful Fallen in the Cosmodrome (7 total)
  7. Talk to Shaw Han in the Cosmodrome and retrieve the Rocket Housing component
  8. Talk to Banshee-44 and retrieve the Trigger Mechanism
  9. Complete Lost Sector Exodus Garden 2A in the Cosmodrome
  10. Reassemble Gjallarhorn in Shaw Han's camp in the Cosmodrome
  11. Talk to Shaw Han in the Cosmodrome to complete Gjallarhorn

Note that you will need to purchase the Bungie 30th Anniversary DLC to access the quest.

It is a rather long quest, so brace yourself for a few hours of playtime at the least to obtain the weapon.

How to start And Out Fly the Wolves in Destiny 2

First, you must complete a round of Dares of Eternity, the new six-player activity which will begin after the Bungie 30th Anniversary update. This shouldn't take too long, so just enjoy the activity. Once you're done, you will end up in the Treasure Hoard, Xur's special area.

Once there, exhaust the dialogue with Xur until you're looking at the regular vendor screen. On the bottom grid of items, switch to the second tab to find the And Out Fly the Wolves quest.

While 'hidden' you don't need any big previous steps, which is a relief. The quest will then begin by taking you to talk to Shaw Han.

Once you have picked up And Out Fly the Wolves from Xur at the Treasure Hoard, you'll have to head to the Cosmodrome and speak to Shawn Han.

From here, the task will take you to complete Grasp of Avarice, which is the DLC's unique dungeon (it has a recommended 1310 Power Level, by the way). This can be started from the Cosmodrome's map or your directory.

Our Grasp of Avarice guide will explain how to complete the dungeon. Once done, you'll then have more quest steps ahead of you to unlock Gjallarhorn.

How to collect Wolfpack Rounds in Destiny 2

With that done, you must collect Wolfpack Rounds from Powerful Fallen in the Cosmodrome.

You can do this anywhere across the Cosmodrome, but we recommend visiting the Lost Sector in The Divide called Exodus Garden 2A.

Powerful Fallen are aplenty here - it's likely that it will take you a few visits instead of doing it on one go, but it's a fairly short Lost Sector to juggle.

Once you have collected all seven Wolfpack Rounds, return to Shaw Han for the last few steps.

The Season of the Deep is here alongside the Into the Depths quest. You can know go fishing too! Don't forget to keep an eye on the Lost Sector and King's Fall challenge rotation schedule!

How to reassemble Gjallarhorn in Destiny 2

Before you get to the practical version of the weapon, you'll have to pick up its parts. This is rather straightforward, mind, as the busiest part of the quest is over.

First, after you've given Shaw Han all seven Wolfpack Rounds by returning to the Cosmodrome and speaking to him again, he'll give you the Rocket Housing quest item.

You'll need a weapons expert for the task, and who else than Banshee-44 to help you with this? Go ahead and pay him a visit in the Tower. He's located in the usual spot near the Courtyard.

Banshee-44 will tell you that the last component is located in Exodus Garden 2A, which means that you'll be running the Lost Sector one more time. Yeah, it's a bit boring, but you only need to do a quick run of it without worrying about item drops.

Almost there!

Only a handful of steps left. Return to the Cosmodrome once more and, instead of talking to Shaw Han directly, head to his hideout (located to the right side of his location) and use the tool chest to assemble the Gjallarhorn components in your possession.

All that's left is for you to talk to Shaw Han one last time to obtain Gjallarhorn.

Congratulations for completing the quest!
