Destiny 2 trailer teases Europa for September expansion
Hello Darkness my old friend.
Destiny 2 looks like it's heading to Europa for its next big expansion.
Jupiter's icy moon is the setting for a quickly-deleted teaser trailer, uploaded to Bungie's Instagram account.
The video shows fan-favourite character Eris Morn crossing the frozen wastes of the planet to find... something. Bungie's teaser concludes by promising more next week.
"The next chapter of Destiny 2 is almost here," the accompanying text reads. "Tune in for the unveiling at 6pm CEST on 9th June." (That'd be 5pm UK time next Tuesday.)
While there's no doubt to the authenticity of the trailer, the fact it has since been removed may suggest Bungie is reconsidering that reveal date - as well as the announcement of it now.
Last Friday, Bungie teased the imminent arrival of the Darkness to Destiny 2, after nearly six years of waiting and glacial plot buildup. An ominous sound clip with an image of the Darkness' iconic pyramid ships was released via Twitter.
Fans have pointed to Bungie's use of the word "unveiling" in this Instagram video as perhaps a veiled (sorry) nod to the Darkness faction. Sometimes referred to within Destiny lore as The Veil, this long-teased race is expected to turn up in Destiny 2 this autumn.
We're still to hear what'll happen next season - and how Destiny will resolve its dangling Almighty plotline. But Bungie typically releases its big Destiny expansions each September with the addition of a new location for players to explore, so this is likely when we'll see this area added. Europa has long been expected - it was originally planned for inclusion in the original Destiny 1 expansion The Taken King - and Bungie has previously shown concept art of its plans for the location.
Could this become the new frontier against the Darkness, as they enter the solar system?
