How to reach Hefnd's Vengeance in the Warlord's Ruin dungeon

Once you grab your loot from Locust you can proceed out the back of this courtyard. You will pass through some twisting hallways and arrive in a room full of treasure chests. All but one are traps that will knock you out and kill you with exploding enemies. Look for the chest that does not emit the faint blue glow when you approach it, and collect the content.

Now proceed by ducking under a collapsed doorway. Climb upwards to the doorway with the red glow, and fight through anything hostile that spawns. Continue forward until you are outside on the side of some cliffs. Hug the wall to your left and follow it in a u-turn into a cave.

Continue forward into a room with a giant Blight, and jump along floating rocks around the perimeter of the room. Take out enemies as you go and you will reach another exterior area. Enter the cave to the right, follow the tunnel, and jump up to an area where a large number of Taken and Scorn will spawn.

Up ahead will be a smaller blight floating over a pit surrounded by cliffs with caves. Jump between these rocks, and enter the tunnel on the left.

From here it’s a more or less straight climb with some fights until you arrive in a room with a pair of spiral staircases. Climb to the top and jump down to arrive at the final boss of the Dungeon.

How to defeat Hefnd’s Vengeance, Blight Chimaera in Destiny 2

At last, we come to the Warlord’s Ruin boss, and you can take your revenge on that giant floating meatball that’s been harassing you for this entire dungeon. As usual, this will require you to put what you learned about the various unique mechanics to use.

The battlefield itself is roughly a vertical column of floating islands. Hefnd’s Vengeance will be invulnerable until you trigger the damage phase, and you will be chasing him from platform to platform throughout this encounter. Enemies will consist primarily of Taken, with some special Scorn mixed in.

Start by clearing enemies until a number of Taken Eyes spawn by the boss. Once you destroy those eyes the Imminent Wish timer will begin, and two different sets of Broken Knights (like in the Locus of Wailing Grief encounter) will spawn. Defeat them and they will drop Taken Lanterns to capture. Capturing these before Imminent Wish ends once again leads to the timed damage phase Naeem’s Wish Empowerment.

The twist is that another set of special taken will appear at the same time as the Broken Knights called Corrupted Hex Drinkers, and a debuff called Hex of Vengeful Corruption will beging counting down. Once it reaches zero it kills whoever has it, but it can be passed by a melee attack to the Hex Drinkers. Be warned, they can pass it right back, so it becomes a deadly game of hot potato in the midst of the chaos.

Put all that together, and a typical round looks like this:

  • Taken Eyes are killed
  • Broken Knights are killed
  • Scorn Lanterns are captured
  • Hex Drinkers are punched and evaded
  • Imminent Wish hits 0
  • DPS the boss

The damage phase will end when either Naeem’s Wish Empowerment expires (in which case you repeat that cycle), or you do enough damage for Hefnd’s Vengeance to flee up a level. When he moves up a level, a pair of floating blights to the right of the lower level turn into platforms; use those to cross up to the next level, and repeat the exact same cycle here.

Hefnd’s Vengeance will ascend up to a third, then fourth level after enough damage is done. The fourth level is different, however. This time the boss will be at the center of three floating platforms. You and your fireteam will be able to do damage from each of these platforms, one at a time. More Eyes will spawn around Hefnd’s Vengeance, destroy these while you do damage to extend the time you have for DPS. After a while a message will read "My hide is thick, O vengeance mine." This means it’s time to jump to the next platform, and start the next attack.

Once you have done damage from all three platforms your fireteam will be teleported to the bottom level of the arena again, and the entire cycle repeats. It is important to note that the damage you do on the highest portion is significantly greater than the damage you do on the first three levels.

Eventually you will whittle the bosses health down to a small segment at the end of it’s healthbar. When this happens, Hefnd’s Revenge will teleport everyone to the top area for a final stand phase. You will have a limited time to finish his last bit of health, so focus all your most powerful weapons until the boss falls. Once he does, collect the last of the loot, and bask in sweet victory atop the snowy peaks.

Good luck conquering the Warlord's Ruin!
