Destiny 2 weapon crafting and how to attune Deepsight Resonance weapons
Crafty.
Weapon crafting in Destiny 2 is one of the major new features in The Witch Queen expansion, and it gives you almost complete control over how your weapons turn out - assuming you get lucky in your drops.
Weapon crafting takes a fair bit of grinding and patience, but once you level up a weapon enough, you can essentially make your own god roll.
The process requires you find Deepsight weapons and complete their Attunement requirements, and while the prospect of obtaining materials might seem daunting, with time and effort, there will be a way to get what you need.

How to unlock weapon crafting in Destiny 2
Weapon crafting unlocks automatically after you complete the first two missions in The Witch Queen campaign. These are free for all players and see you climb aboard Savathun's ship, acquire a mysterious artifact, and face off against the Witch Queen herself before crashing back down to Mars.
Once you're back at the Enclave on Mars, you're directed to the large building behind where you spawn. Head in there for a brief cutscene introducing the Relic and its functions. This is where you'll go to craft weapons for most of the Witch Queen campaign, and you'll craft your first Glaive as a tutorial.
Once you've crafted the Glaive, you have the potential to find weapons with Deepsight Resonance from then on.
How to craft weapons in Destiny 2
Weapon crafting requires materials and patterns, and it takes quite a bit of time to obtain a weapon pattern. Once you have what you need, head to the Relic and choose to Shape (craft) or Reshape (modify an existing crafted weapon).
Shape lets you build a weapon from the ground up, choosing its frame and perks. Reshape uses materials to add new perks. It's something you'll use more often as you level up more weapons and unlock perks and other modifications, since your available options are limited initially.
Here's what they all do:
- Intrinsic Trait: Special perks that govern how the weapon functions
- Magazine: Influences rate of fire, reload speed, and related aspects
- Barrel: Influences stability, range, and related aspects
- Trait 1: A bonus perk of your choosing
- Trait 2: A bonus perk of your choosing
- Memento: A special cosmetic
At higher weapon levels, you can also unlock Enhanced Traits, which essentially lets you add traits of your choosing to the weapon during Reshaping.
How to level up weapons in Destiny 2
Leveling up a weapon just requires you to use it in combat, which you'll do naturally as you work towards completing Attunement for a given weapon anyway.
More perk slots unlock as you level up your weapons. Weapon levels are a new stat separate from their power levels and have no effect other than unlocking perks.
How to get Deepsight weapons and weapon patterns in Destiny 2
You'll obtain some weapon patterns by completing quests, but most of them come from attuning weapons. Since even finding a weapon with Deepsight Resonance is random - wherever you get a Legendary drop, you'll also have a chance of a Deepsight version - you should expect unlocking weapon patterns to potentially take a long time.
Weapons with Deepsight Resonance have a red border around their icon in the character menu, so they're hard to miss. For now, only weapons from The Witch Queen expansion are craftable, including the new Exotics. Bungie will be adding more patterns over time.
The Season of the Deep is here alongside the Into the Depths quest. You can know go fishing too! Don't forget to keep an eye on the Lost Sector and King's Fall challenge rotation schedule!
How to Attune weapons in Destiny 2
Once you've acquired a Deepsight weapon, you'll find its Attunement requirements under the weapon details section. Most weapon Attunement missions just involve using the weapon in combat until the Attunement meter reaches 100%.
Once that happens, you'll need to extract the Resonance Materials, which can be a bit confusing at first. The prompt tells you to "claim" them, but you actually need to hover over the bottom row of icons to display the available materials.
You can claim whichever material you choose, but only one of the set that's available. Over time, as you unlock more weapon patterns, you'll want to pay closer attention to which materials you grab.
Crafting weapons and Reshaping them takes a certain number of specific Resonant Materials depending on the weapon or upgrade you're working with, so make sure to check what you need before extracting.
You obtain all Resonant materials except the two Alloy types from attuning weapons and extracting their materials. Some crafting quests reward you with Resonant materials as well, though these run out quickly.
