Diablo 3 coming to PlayStation 4 as well as PS3
Includes single-screen, local four-player co-op.
Blizzard has finally put the official stamp on Diablo 3 for consoles, revealing at Sony's PlayStation Meeting that it will be coming to both PS3 and PS4. (He didn't say it was exclusive, so Xbox versions should still be considered likely.)
The announcement was made by Blizzard's story guru and habitual stage hog Chris Metzen. The game wasn't shown, although Metzen said it was up and running very nicely on PS3 at Blizzard's offices.
The most exciting new feature for Diablo fans has to be four-player local co-op on a single screen. "One couch to rule them all," quipped Metzen.
He also promised that the controls and user interface had been "painstakingly" optimised for console play, including direct control of your character. "Diablo 3 has never been so easy to play," he said.
According to a subsequent pree release, the PlayStation version of the game will include all latest updates to the "core experience" of the PC version, including the Paragon levelling system and customisable Monster Power. The infamous real-money Auction House isn't mentioned, though.
Console Diablo 3 will make its formal debut at the PAX East show in Boston next month, March 22nd to 24th, in playable form.
