Diablo 3 - Horadric Caches rewards and Adventure Mode explained
A complete guide to Diablo 3's Adventure Mode, from the basics of beating Bounties, to Horadric Cache rewards, and making your Rifts go further.
Once you've complete all five Acts of Diablo 3's storyline on a single character, you can either begin your journey all over again or take part in the new Adventure Mode. This new way of playing through the game is split into two different sections: Bounties and Nephalem Rifts.
In the former, you complete bite-sized missions sprinkled across all five of Diablo 3's Acts, while the latter consist of deep and dank dungeons filled with swarms of enemies. Kill enough of them and you'll get to face off against a particularly powerful elite enemy known as a Rift Guardian.
Getting started with the Bounty system
When you begin an Adventure Mode game, each of Diablo 3's five Acts will be assigned five different Bounties. These mini-quests send you to a specific area of the game map to either complete a local event or kill a nominated Elite creature. There's often also a requirement to kill a certain number of regular enemies in the area as well.
Bounty rewards
Once you've completed your objective, you'll be rewarded with experience points which go towards your regular or Paragon levelling. You'll also receive some gold, Blood Shards to spend at the Gambler and a handful of Rift Keystone Fragments which are used to open Rifts.
Note that every time you start up a game, two random Acts will be marked on the map as having a Bonus attached to them. Complete every Bounty in these special Acts and you'll receive twice as many Blood Shards for your trouble. You can also speed up your acquisition of shards by playing the game on Expert difficulty or higher.
Horadric Cache rewards
If you complete all five Bounties within a single Act, Tyrael will reward you with something known as a Horadric Cache. These special caches contain even more Blood Shards and Rift Keystone Fragments, and can also include weapons, armour, gems and Blacksmithing Plans.
Not only that, there are some special pieces of equipment that can only be looted from Horadric Caches. Here's what you have a chance of unlocking by completing every Bounty in a specific Act:
Act | Item | Slot Type |
---|---|---|
One | Golden Gorget of Leoric | Amulet |
Mad Monarch's Scepter | Mace | |
Pauldrons of the Skeleton King | Pauldrons | |
Ring of Royal Grandeur | Ring | |
Sanguinary Vambraces | Bracers | |
Two | Cloak of Deception | Cloak |
Coven's Criterion | Shield | |
Gloves of Worship | Gloves | |
Illusory Boots | Boots | |
Three | Avarice Band | Ring |
Boots of Disregard | Boots | |
Burst of Wrath | Two-Handed Axe | |
Envious Blade | Dagger | |
Insatiable Belt | Waist | |
Overwhelming Desire | Amulet | |
Pride's Fall | Head | |
Five | Death's Bargain | Legs |
Helltrapper | Crossbow | |
Pandemonium Loop | Ring | |
Salvation | Crusader Shield | |
Soulsmasher | Two-Handed Mace |
You have a chance to loot all of the above items by completing the collection of Bounties in Act 4.
It's important to be aware of some important limitations when setting out to farm lots of Horadric Caches:
- The item level of equipment contained in the cache is determined when you acquire it, but the stats are not rolled until you open it. So, if a Level 60 Crusader receives the cache from Tyrael, but a Level 70 Witch Doctor opens it, that character will receive items suited for a Level 60 Witch Doctor.
- Torment-only legendaries will only drop from a Horadric Cache if the cache was earned by completing Bounties on Torment difficulty.
- You can quickly farm lots of Horadric Caches on Normal difficulty, and still receive Legendary items - just not the Torment-only ones.

A guide to Nephalem Rifts
The second component of Adventure Mode takes the form of Nephalem Rifts. These multi-level dungeons, randomly crafted out of the environments of the core game, challenge you to clear out enough enemies to fill a bar that records your reign of destruction. Once you've filled it up completely, a special Nephalem Boss will appear on the battlefield. These bosses typically take the form of an Elite or boss creature from the main game, albeit a version with a much bigger health pool and even more dangerous damage abilities.
To open up a portal towards one of these sprawling dungeons, simply approach the Nephalem Obelisk located back at camp, and then click on it. You'll need a minimum of five Rift Keystone Fragments to open the portal. Complete more Bounties if you've run out of these items.
Once you've killed the Rift Guardian, you can return to camp and speak to Orek to shut the Rift down and receive your gold and experience point rewards. Don't be in too much of a hurry to do this, however, as the chance of looting Legendary items is much higher in Rifts. It's worth clearing them out entirely before firing up another one.
