DK arcade game nothing new

Bananas though it clearly is.

Excitement abounds as various internet-going monkeys uncovered Donkey Kong Banana Kingdom this morning - a Capcom-made cabinet that brings bongo-controlled three-player Donkey Kong to Japan's arcades complete with flying rhinos, endless spinning fruit and all the other trappings.

Shown off in some detail on the above-linked index page and its partner in crime, Banana Kingdom looks like it might be a redemption game built around GameCube title Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, which is referenced at the bottom of the page. Calls to Capcom didn't illuminate anything, since apparently everybody's off in Japan.

If they are, though, then a bit of digging around Capcom's website suggests they won't actually have to hang around long to pop down the arcade and find Banana Kingdom in place. Originally added to the arcade game index page in November, Banana Kingdom has apparently shown "favourable growth" according to Capcom's recent financial reports. In other words, it's been out for a while. All 1250 kilograms of it.

Still, there's no denying that it looks ridiculous, and we can't remember mentioning it previously, so enjoy passing the link around on MSN pretending you found it. After all, that's basically what we're doing.
