Restless Spirits in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a side quest you can do in the Necropolis after adding Emmerich (and Manfred) to your team.

This quest tasks you with finding the four missing Wisps that have taken up residence somewhere in the Necropolis Belfry in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. We highly recommend having Emmerich and Lucanis as companions while hunting for the Wisps, but changing your companions to ones with Lightning-based attacks for the second half of this quest.

Without further ado, here's how to complete Restless Spirits in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Dragon Age The Veilguard Restless Spirits walkthrough

There are four Wisps to find in the Belfry for the Restless Spirits quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Here's how to find each one of them:

Wisp one

To find the first Wisp enter the Belfry from the southern doorway (Lost Watcher's Wing) and head to the closest quest marker to your right.

Here, look for the closed door with the purple flame above it then open the door and head inside. To your left you should see two unlit stone torches either side of a stone desk. Interact with both of these to light them.

Once they've been lit a fire will appear on the stone table between them. Walk over to this and use Emmerich's 'Placate Mischief' skill on it to draw out the Wisp. Remember, if Emmerich isn't in your party you can use the Dagger to use his ability here.

When the Wisp reveals itself, walk near it to collect it and then follow the quest marker to a large locked door in the Belfry. Walk over to one of the four chains in front of this door to place the Wisp down - you now need to find three more.

Wisp two

To find the second Wisp, head right from the locked doorway and you should come across to skeletons with pickaxes. Behind them will be two doors, one locked one and one with a purple flame above it. Head through the door with the purple flame above it.

In here, look to your left and you should see a lever. Walk over to this and interact with it, this will open the locked door you've just seen near the skeletons outside (ignore the crystal-barrier doorway for now in here).

Now head back outside and into the door you've just opened behind the skeleton duo. In here, smash the crystal hidden between the crates to your right.

Then turn to your left to face a set of metal bars. Look up and slightly to the right, you should see a gap here where you can use a ranged attack to destroy the crystal.

Now head back out into the room you just found the lever in and smash the now unshielded crystal in here. Once that's been destroyed, attack the crystal sealing the doorway to clear a path. The Wisp will now be on your right.

As you did earlier, collect the Wisp then take it back to one of the three remaining chains outside the locked door. This now leaves two to find.

Wisp three

To find the third Wisp you need to look around the tall statues in the middle of the Belfry until you find one that's holding a purple/red orb.

When you find this statue you need to use Lucanis' 'Spiteful Aura' ability on the purple/red orb itself. If you don't have Lucanis in your party you can use the Dagger to summon this ability.

This will then reveal a giant purple hand coming up from the floor that acts as a ramp to take you up to the Wisp. All you need to do is walk along the hand to the fingertips and collect the Wisp up here - but be fast as the hand will only be revealed for a brief period of time.

Once you've got the Wisp, you know the drill, take it back to the locked door. Only one left now!

Wisp four

For the fourth and final Wisp, head directly opposite you from the locked doors and you should find the quest marker is slightly opposite you to the left. Head towards the marker and you should find there's another door with a purple flame above it to the left.

Head through here and now, in this room, you need to find and light six stone torches:

  • The first one is on the ground against the wall opposite you and slightly to the right as you enter through the doorway, clear the stack of crates here to find it leaning against the wall.
  • The second one is on the wall to the right of the first.
  • The third one is on the wall to the right of the second.
  • The fourth one is just beside the skeleton on the table with the candles on it.
  • The fifth torch is on the ground just to the left of this, clear the crates to be able to see it.

Once these are all lit, head to the skeleton body on the table and collect the Wisp here. You know the drill by now, take it back to the locked door and it will finally open.

How to beat the Restless Spirits Orbiting Envy Demon in Dragon Age The Veilguard

When you've returned all the Wisps to the locked door, you'll be able to go through it and into a chamber where you'll come face to face with the quest's mini-boss - the Orbiting Envy Demon. Alongside a few demonic helpers, this can be a bit of a tricky fight. Here are some tips to help you through it on the 'Standard' difficultly:

  • They're Vulnerable to Lightning damage but Resistant to Necrotic damage - So we don't advise using Emmerich or Lucanis for this fight. You can change your party at the fast travel beacon in the Belfry if you need to.
  • Let your companions deal with the stragglers - Your main focus should be on the Envy Demon as they can deal some heavy blows, and they can disappear then reappear elsewhere in the room.
  • Aim for the head - If in doubt of which spot to aim for at range, then hit their head (this is especially effective with a Rogue's charged arrow).
  • Stagger them - While the Envy demon is staggered you can get some powerful hits on them regardless of your character class. Just note that their stagger doesn't last very long, so be ready to run once they recover.
  • Watch the ground for red circles - If you find yourself standing in a red circle then you need to move quickly, if it's red you'll probably be dead. The Envy demon has a few strong attacks that you're warned about through these red circles, so heed the warning and make sure you're not in range.
  • Listen to your companions! - In every single fight, your companions will let you know if you're in danger from being hit by an attack. If you listen to them carefully, you'll be able to keep Rook safe - so don't ignore them.

Once you've beaten the Orbiting Envy Demon you'll have completed Restless Spirits - well done Rook!
